• MO001-003 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on the summit of a NNW-SSE drumlin ridge. This is a circular grass-covered area (int. diam. 30m NW-SE; 29m NE-SW) sloping down slightly to the NE that is defined by an earthen bank and hedge, with traces of an outer fosse visible at W. There are gaps in the perimeter at N, SSE and SSW, but the original entrance is probably that (Wth of base 2.9m) at E. There is a farmyard immediately to the E, but the monument is undisturbed. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). • MO001-007 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the SE-facing slope of a NNW-SSE drumlin ridge. This feature is depicted only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a D-shaped area truncated by a NW-SE field bank at NE. This is a small subcircular or D-shaped area (dims 23m NW-SE; 20m NE-SW) sloping down the NE, which is planted in coniferous trees and defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 4.3m; Wth of top 1.8m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.65m) SE-W-NW. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance and the monument is truncated by a NW-SE field bank at NE.
