• OF015-013 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on flat poorly drained land. Circular area (36m E-W) enclosed by low flat bank (Wth 7m) at W, reduced to a scarp elsewhere, wide external fosse (Wth 7m; int. D 1.7m) with no entrance feature visible. There are beech trees all along the perimeter of the enclosure indicating the possibility that this is a tree ring. The interior of the site appears to have been hollowed out. Possibly a ringfort modified into a tree ring. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
