  Description

  Situated on top of a ringwork (WM036-023001-), in pasture, with good views in all directions. The Athlone to Clara railway line is within 10m to NE. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a square-shaped structure adjoining a long suboval-shaped enclosure to N and located in the townland of Castletown. Not shown on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map and now located in the townland of Bolinarra. The Boor River appears to have been canalised to N of the monument, removing the meandering loop to S. Levelled castle described in 1973 as no surface remains visible. The area of the monument is very much overgrown and is difficult to examine. A pile of earth and stone rises irregularly on top of the S half of the ringwork and may be associated with the castle ruin.   Description

  Situated in pasture, with good views in all directions. The Athlone to Clara railway line is within 10m to NE. Depicted on the first ed. OS 6-inch map as a long roughly oval-shaped enclosure attached to N side of castle (WM036-023----). Monument described in 1973 as a roughly circular-shaped mound of earth and stone which is largely obscured by scrub. The outline of the mound is quite irregular. and the probable remains of the castle (WM036-023----) stand on the S half. Monument is obscured today by dense scrub on Digital Globe aerial photography. The earthwork shown on the first ed. OS map may have been an earth and stone bawn of the stone castle. The railway line now runs across the area where this possible bawn was depicted on the first ed. • WM036-035 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the S spur of a small hillock (200ft/61m OD), in rough pasture. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1977 as an oval-shaped area (dims. 53m E-W; 55m N-S) defined by a scarp. There seems to be later stone facing to the scarp at NW and from E-ESE-SSE. There is no trace of an external fosse. There is a gap in the scarp at NNE and SSE, although it is unclear which may be the original entrance. The interior has an E-facing slope with no apparent structures visible. Monument is visible today as an oval-shaped tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography, the surrounding area has been planted with modern forestry.
