  Description

  In an extensive farmyard, in which large outbuildings have been erected. In 1837, according to O’Conor who co-compiled the OSL (Herity 2002, 70 [206]), ‘… in Cloney townland, is an old Castle, retaining its roof, and attached to it, a house, occupied by – Kelly.’ No visible surface trace survives.   Description

  In a graveyard (KD030-003001-). The remains consist of the very poorly preserved, ivy-clad portion of the W gable wall, which contains a well preserved doorway (Wth 0.96m; H 1.58m) with a two stone, two-centred limestone arch, and the lower wall courses (T 0.75m) of a rectangular structure (min. 11m E-W; 6.4m N-S), built of limestone rubble masonry.   Description

  In level pasture, surrounded by an extensive farm yard and outbuildings to S, W and N. A castle (KD030-002----) stood c. 75m to the N. A partially overgrown D-shaped area (diam. c. 34m NW-SE) with a straight SE side (l c. 58m) is enclosed mainly with a wire-and-post fence.   Description

  At the E end of ‘Derryvullagh Island’ located near the centre of a large expanse of Bord Na Mona bog servicing the Killberry Moss Peat plant to the W. Shown on the 1st ed. (1839) of the OS 6-inch map as a large circular enclosure/field (est. diam. c. 90m) in contrast to the rectilinear field system on the rest of the island. The island is now heavily overgrown with hazel, ash and some oak trees, and has a dense undergrowth of briar and thorn. Apart from a broad curving drain (NNE-E-S) there is no clearly visible trace of an enclosing element. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 07 October 2013
