Description
At the E end of a narrow, E-W strip of ornamental woodland, in pasture. A large, fairly well-preserved, although tree-covered, roughly circular area (int. diam. 56m; ext diam. 77m) is enclosed by a broad high, earthen bank (int. H 1.2m; Wth 7-8m; ext. H over base of outer fosse 3m) with a narrow level berm (Wth 2m) on its outer face NW-N-NE, and by a shallow outer fosse (Wth 3-5m; D 0.5m). A gap at NE (Wth 5m) may be an enlarged original entrance. Description
In an overgrown graveyard (KD029-016001-). In 1192 Inchbrislane [Gilltown] and Brannockstown [KD029-013----] were granted with Domnachmor (Yagae) [KD029-013----] to St. Patrick's. … In 1275, the Chapel of Gilltown or Kilton, alias Inchebrislane, belonged to the Cistercian Monastery at Baltinglass, which had a Magna Grangia [monastic grange] here in 1531 (IHS 1941, 39-40). The church is described as 'downe' in 1630, at the time of Bulkeley's Visitation (IHS 1941b, 80). The church has been levelled and a patch of uneven stony ground may mark it site. Description
In level pasture. A totally overgrown, almost square area (c. 57m N-S; c. 55m E-W), with a rounded N side, is enclosed by a wooden fence. The interior is slightly higher than the surrounding field and contained a church (KD029-016----). The earliest legible grave markers date to the 18th-century.
