• KE016-015 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  This univallate rath appears on the 1841-42 map as a circular enclosure but by the later edition of 1914-15 its shape had been altered to oval. A bohareen runs immediately to the N. This oval area is enclosed by a low, wide earthen bank which averages 5.6m in width at the base and rises to .8m above the surrounding land and 1m above the interior. In the SE sector of the enclosing bank, on the exterior side, there is a semi-circular area, with its in-curve facing the surrounding land. It would appear to be stone lined and measures 3.6m N-S internally, .5m deep and has a 1.2m wide opening. The above description is derived from Toal C. • KE016-016 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter c. 29m N-S, c. 37m E-W This sub-circular enclosure is situated to the SE of KE015-021---- and is marked clearly on the 1841-42 OS map. It is not as clearly defined on the later edition and has been much levelled. The enclosing bank, which surrounded an irregularly shaped interior, is much levelled, especially to the NW through N to E to S, where it is very low and wide and in places barely perceptible, measuring c 10m wide and .4m high. The rest of the bank from the S to W has been incorporated into a fieldbank. It is 3.8m wide at the base and rises to 1.2m above the surrounding land and 1.6m above the interior.
