Description
Semi-detached four-bay two-storey house with attic level, built c. 1890. On irregular-plan with gable-fronted projections to the north-east, south-west and south-east elevations. One of a pair with building (see 40820006) adjoining to the north-west. Pitched artificial slate roof with blue black clay ridge tiles, cement rendered chimneystacks, painted timber overhanging eaves on exposed painted rafter feet; decorative timber bargeboards, and replacement rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings smooth rendered reveals, painted sills, and with some surviving timber sliding sash windows (including six-over-six pane timber sliding sashes and paired six over-two pane timber sash windows with timber mullion with horizontal glazing bars) but mainly replacement fittings. Pointed segmental-headed entrance door opening to north-east elevation having rendered block-and-start surround, timber panelled door with timber bolection mouldings, and with four pane overlight. Set back from road in mature site with gardens to the centre of Fahan, house overlooks Lough Swilly located adjacent to the west and south-west of site. Gateway to the north\north-west of site comprising a pair of rendered gates piers (on square-plan) with a pair of replacement metal gates. Rendered boundary wall to road frontage to the north-east.

Description
Freestanding gable-fronted Catholic Chapel of Ease, built c. 1947, having seven-bay nave, single-bay single-storey gable-fronted entrance porch to the entrance gable (south-east), and with single-bay single-storey gable-fronted sacristy to the west gable end. Pitched sprocketed natural slate roof with projecting eaves course, concrete cross finial to west gable end of nave, projecting cement rendered eaves, cast-iron rainwater goods, and red clay roll ridge tiles. Pitched sprocketed natural slate roofs to porch and sacristy with cross finial to porch gable apex. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth cement rendered crown band, snecked rock-faced stone-clad plinth with chamfered concrete coping. Round-headed window openings with concrete Y-tracery, leaded coloured glass, flush concrete surrounds and sill, and with concrete hoodmouldings with decorative label stops. Square-headed door opening to porch having timber panelled door with raised and fielded panels and bolection mouldings surmounted by concrete round-headed tympanum with three roundels with embossed cross motifs, flush concrete surrounds to doorcase, concrete hoodmoulding and label-stops; round-headed door opening to sacristy with painted timber chevron-sheeted door, concrete reveals and flush surrounds, concrete hoodmoulding and label stops. Set back from road in sloping site to the north-east end of Fahan and adjacent to Lough Swilly. Site enclosed to north by roughcast rendered boundary wall with concrete saddle-backed coping over surmounted by decorative metal railing; cement rendered piers (on square-plan) at intervals along length. Gateway to the north comprising a pair of smooth rendered gate piers (on square-plan) having round-headed roughcast rendered panels, stepped pyramidal cap surmounted by round concrete finials, and with a pair of metal gates.

Description
Single-arch bridge, built c. 1864, carrying road over the former Derry to Buncrana section of the Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway line. Railway line now out of use with tracks removed (c. 1953); now spans lane leading to Lough Swilly Yacht Club. Round-headed arch with mildly rock-faced ashlar limestone voussoirs to arch and with roughly squared rubble stone construction to arch barrel. Randomly coursed and squared rubble stone construction to spandrels and to parapets; roughly dressed and squared rubble stone coping to parapets. Roughly squared and coursed rubble stone retaining walls aligning former railway cutting with flight of concrete steps behind retaining wall to the north-west corner. Tarmacadam deck with grass verges. Located to the north-west of Fahan, adjacent to Lough Swilly, and a short distance to the south-east of the former Fahan Railway Station (altered and not in survey).

Detached two-bay single-storey with half-dormer attic level house, built c. 1890, having open projecting single-bay single-storey entrance porch to the centre of the front elevation (south), return to rear, modern conservatory to east. Later in use as a guest house, now in use as a house. Pitched natural slate roofs, hipped and lean-to natural slate roofs to return, having red clay ridge tiles, yellow brick chimneystacks to the gable ends (east and west) with corbelled caps over, timber overhanging eaves with exposed timber rafter feet, chamfered decorative timber bargeboards to gables, decorative wrought-iron finials to dormers, and with replacement rainwater goods. Smooth rendered walls over projecting chamfered rendered plinth. Square-headed window openings at ground floor level, having smooth rendered reveals, render hoodmoulding over with label stops, and with two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows with horizontal glazing bars; canted-headed window openings to attic to dormers having smooth rendered reveals , painted sills, and with two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows with horizontal glazing bars. Segmental-headed entrance door opening to porch having timber panelled double-doors with bolection mouldings, door addressed by concrete doorstep and with coloured geometrically laid tiled\encaustic tiled threshold; doorcase set within open porch with pitched slate roof, decorative painted bargeboards, decorative wrought-iron railings to the side elevations (east and west), decorative painted wrought-iron finial, and supported by painted. Set back from road in an elevated site overlooking Lough Swilly to the south, located to the north-west end of Fahan. Garden to front of site. Bounded on road-frontage to the south by rendered boundary wall. Gateway to the south-west corner of site having rendered gate piers (on square-plan) having modern metal gates. Single-storey outbuilding to the rear (north-east) having pitched natural slate roof, rubble stone walls (rendered to the west gable end), square-headed doorways with battened timber doors, and square-headed carriage-arch with battened timber double-doors.

Detached multiple-bay two-storey over raised basement house and former hotel on complex irregular-plan, built c. 1875, having projecting two-storey over basement gable-fronted bay to the north-west end of the south-west elevation, projecting two-storey over basement gable-fronted bay to the south-east end of the south-west elevation having full-height canted bay window, two-gable-fronted bays to the north-east elevation, and projecting two-storey over basement gable-fronted bay to the north-east side elevation having full-height canted bay window. Later in use as a hotel with modern single-storey over basement flat-roofed addition to the north-east. Now disused. Pitched tile roof with decorative fish scale tile courses, terracotta ridge cresting, red clay finials over gable apexes, decorative timber bargeboards to gable-fronted bays, decorative timber brackets over canted bay projections, cast-iron rainwater goods, and with red brick chimneystacks having corbelled brick heads and with clay pots over. Channelled smooth rendered rubble stone walls at basement level having moulded rendered cornice over, red brick (Flemish bond) walls at ground and first floor level having flush black brick stringcourses, flush black brick stringcourses forming flush hoodmouldings over openings, and with flush black brick diamond motifs to gables. Pointed segmental-headed and camber headed window openings having roll moulded\torus moulded surrounds, chamfered sills, and with boarded fittings over surviving one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows; sill course at ground floor level; square-headed window openings at basement level, now boarded with timber panels; flush black keystone motifs over some window openings. Square-headed entrance door openings at basement level, blocked with timber panels. Located adjacent to Lough Swilly; land slopes steeply away from coast towards road to the north-east with single-storey elevation to roadscape. Stone-clad wall adjacent to road to the north-east.

Detached three-bay two-storey house on L-shaped plan, built 1871, having advanced gable-fronted bay to the south-west end of the front elevation (north-west) having single-storey canted bay window at ground floor level, two gable-fronted dormers\gablets to the north-east end of the front elevation, advanced gable-fronted bay to the south-east end of the south-west elevation having single-storey canted bay window at ground floor level, and with gable-fronted return to the rear (north-east). Modern single-storey addition to the north-east. Pitched artificial slate roofs with decorative ridge cresting, decorative undulating pierced timber bargeboards, carved timber spear finials over apexes to gable ends and to gablets, overhanging eaves with exposed painted timber rafter feet, replacement rainwater goods, and with rendered chimneystacks having decorative pots over. Smooth rendered walls over chamfered smooth rendered plinth, and with rendered chamfered rusticated quoins to the corners. Square-headed window openings with one-over-one pane horned timber sliding sash windows, timber one-over-one margin-lights horned sash windows to first floor east elevation, painted sills, and with rendered moulded hoodmouldings at ground floor level and to window openings to projecting gable-fronted bays. Central pointed segmental-headed doorway to the front elevation (north-west) having timber panelled door with recessed floral ornament, plain overlight, rendered reveals, tiled threshold, and with render hoodmoulding over. Set back from road in attractive mature site with gardens to the centre of Fahan, house overlooks Lough Swilly located adjacent to the west and south-west of site. Enclosed yard to the north-east having detached two-storey outbuilding with pitched artificial slate roof, rendered walls, and square-headed openings with timber doors and timber louvers. Yard enclosed to south by roughcast rendered wall with crenellated parapet over. Gateway to the north of site comprising a pair of yellow brick piers (on square-plan) having inset red brick panels, and with pyramidal coping over.

Semi-detached four-bay two-storey house with attic level built c. 1890, having central two-bay two-storey gable-fronted block to the main elevation (north-west), two gable-fronted full-height bays to the south-west elevation, and with modern opening canopy extension to the south-west and north-east elevations, and with modern single-storey extension to the north end of the front elevation. One of a pair with building (see 40820007) adjoining to the south-east. Pitched artificial slate roof with blue black clay ridge tiles, cement rendered chimneystacks, painted timber overhanging eaves on exposed painted rafter feet; decorative timber bargeboards, tracery brace and finial to central gable to the north-west, replacement rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings smooth rendered reveals, painted sills, and with four-over-four pane timber sliding sash windows, six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows, and four-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows with horizontal glazing bars,; some casement windows. Pointed segmental-headed entrance door opening to central projecting block to the north-west having rendered block-and-start surround, timber panelled door with timber bolection mouldings, and with four pane overlight. Set back from road in mature site with gardens to the centre of Fahan, house overlooks Lough Swilly located adjacent to the west and south-west of site. Gateway to the north\north-west of site comprising a pair of rendered gates piers (on square-plan) with a pair of hooped wrought-iron gates.

Semi-detached four-bay two-storey house with attic level, built c. 1890. On irregular-plan with gable-fronted projections to the north-east, south-west and south-east elevations. One of a pair with building (see 40820006) adjoining to the north-west. Pitched artificial slate roof with blue black clay ridge tiles, cement rendered chimneystacks, painted timber overhanging eaves on exposed painted rafter feet; decorative timber bargeboards, and replacement rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings smooth rendered reveals, painted sills, and with some surviving timber sliding sash windows (including six-over-six pane timber sliding sashes and paired six over-two pane timber sash windows with timber mullion with horizontal glazing bars) but mainly replacement fittings. Pointed segmental-headed entrance door opening to north-east elevation having rendered block-and-start surround, timber panelled door with timber bolection mouldings, and with four pane overlight. Set back from road in mature site with gardens to the centre of Fahan, house overlooks Lough Swilly located adjacent to the west and south-west of site. Gateway to the north\north-west of site comprising a pair of rendered gates piers (on square-plan) with a pair of replacement metal gates. Rendered boundary wall to road frontage to the north-east.

Detached four-bay two-storey former house, built in 1870-71, having full-height segmental bowed bay to the east end of the front elevation (south), full-height segmental bowed bay to the west side elevation, central pedimented entrance porch to the front elevation (south), and with single-storey flat-roofed addition to the east elevation having canted corner to the east end. Later in use as a convent and now in use as a nursing home with multiple modern extensions and additions to the rear (north). Hipped artificial slate roof with blue-black roll clay ridge tiles, a central pair of rendered chimneystacks with moulded corbelled cap, projecting rendered eaves course, and with painted cast-iron rainwater goods. Smooth rendered walls with moulded render stringcourses at window head level, rendered pilasters between paired and bow window openings, moulded rendered sill courses, and pronounced projecting rendered plinth with moulded head. Square-headed window openings with replacement windows; surviving two-over-six pane timber sliding sash window to rear (north) having margin glazing bars with coloured glass to outer panels. Central square-headed door opening to the front elevation having timber panelled door with bolection mouldings and metal door furniture, plain overlight, and with render doorcase comprising render pilasters having entablature over with plain frieze, and with render triangular pediment over. Carved sandstone steps up to entrance. Set well-back from road in an elevated mature site overlooking Lough Swilly to the south. Complex of outbuildings (see 40820010) and former walled garden located to the east.

Complex of single- and two-storey outbuildings associated with St. Mura’s (now Nazareth House), built c. 1871 and altered c. 1900, arranged around a courtyard to the east of the main house comprising seven-bay single-storey former coach house to the south of site having two-bay single-storey section attached to the north-west, four-bay two-storey block to the north-west having three-bay single-storey block attached to the east, and with segmental-headed carriage-arch to the west of site having curvilinear parapet over with plaque dated 1871, and with monogram ‘DMC’. Currently in use as outbuildings associated with Nazareth House. Pitched natural slate roof to outbuilding to the north-west, and hipped artificial slate roof to building to the south, with clay ridge tiles, projecting eaves course cement rendered chimneystack to building to the north-east, and with cast-iron and replacement rainwater goods. Roughcast and rendered rubble stone walls. Square and segmental-headed window openings, some with rendered brick block-and-start brick surrounds, some surviving with two-over-two and six-over-three pane timber sash window and replacement timber casement windows. Some surviving stone sills. Square-headed door openings with brick block-and-start brick surrounds and timber vertically-sheeted single and double-doors. Depressed-headed carriage-arched with rendered block-and-start brick surrounds. Decorative wrought-iron weather vane in the form of a cockerel over carriage-arch to the west side of complex. Set back from road in extensive mature shared grounds to the east of main house. Former walled garden adjacent to the south. Located to the north of the long straggling village of Fahan.

Description
Walled garden on sub rectangular-plan associated with St. Mura’s\Nazareth nursing home (see 4082009), erected c. 1871, having rounded corner to the south-west corner of site. Now in use as pasture land. Random coursed rubble stone boundary walls lined internally with red brick (English garden bond) to the south and west sides, and with remains of brick coping over. Remains of demolished building to the north wall, possibly originally part of a greenhouse. Segmental-headed carriage-arch to the west boundary having red brick block-and-start surrounds, red brick voussoirs, and with a pair of battened timber gates. Integral square-headed doorway to the north boundary, opening in complex of outbuildings (see 40820010), having modern metal doors. Located to in mature shared grounds to the east of associated house, and to the north of the centre of Fahan.
