• ME008-013 Castle - motte and bailey
  Description

  Located on an esker ridge that extends off to the W and ESE. This is a subcircular or subrectangular flat-topped earthen mound (dims of top 24m NW-SE; 17m NE-SW; H 6.1m at SW to 7.5m at NE; dim. of base 45m NE-SW) planted in trees. It is defined by a fosse (Wth of top 8-12m; ext. D 2.2-3m), with an external bank (at NE: Wth 7m; ext. H 1.3m) N-S-WSW. There is a crescent-shaped, grass-covered bailey (dims c. 40m NE-SW; 27m NW-SE) defined by scrub-covered scarps (at NW: Wth 4m; H 1.5m), attached to the WNW of the motte. • ME009-011001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated at the SW end of a NE-SW ridge with spurs from this point off to the W and SE, it is described as ‘Cave Fort’ on the 1836 and 1908 OS 6-inch maps. This is a raised, D-shaped and grass-covered area (dims 36m N-S; 33m E-W) defined b y a scarp (at N: Wth 4.5m; H 2.6m; at S: Wth 5.3m; H 2m). There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance, but it is bisected by an E-W field bank that is faced with stone at N (H 1m) but flush with the interior at S, and the perimeter is truncated by the bank a N-S farm lane at E. • ME009-011002 Souterrain
  Description

  Located in the SW quadrant of rath (ME009-011001-). A shallow passage (Wth of top 2.2m; Wth of base 1.1m; max. D 0.6m) inside the edge of the rath at W extends SE (L 10.25m) from the field bank dividing the rath in two, and turns E (L 6.5m) before terminating in a circular hollow (diam. 4.5m; D 0.5-0.7m), which has indications of another passage (L 3m) extending N from it. • ME009-012 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on a slight rise on the NW-facing slope of NE-SW ridge. This is a raised grass and scrub-covered subcircular area (dims of top 30m WNW-ESE: 25m NNW-SSE) with some rock outcrop on the summit defined by a scarp (at SSE: Wth 19m; H 2.5m; at NNW: Wth 4m; H 1.7m) separated by a berm (at S: Wth 6.4m) from an outer earthen bank (at S: Wth of base 3m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.7m) with some bushes and there are slight traces of an outer fosse N-SE. There is an entrance (Wth of base 2.3m) in this outer bank at SSW. On the summit there is a raised platform (dims 15m E-W; 10m N-S; H 0.4m) in the SW quadrant.
