- CL008-045003 Enclosure
Description
On a low rise in undulating rough pastureland and outcropping limestone, within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL009-001001-). This subrectangular enclosure (49m WNW-ESE; 33m NNE-SSW) is defined by a fairly uniform earthen bank (av. Wth 3.15m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.4m). A rise at SW (H 1.15m) may be due to the natural slope of the ground. Traces of one course of an external revetment are visible intermittently at N, NE, S and SW. Just outside the bank at NW, two intersecting stone walls, forming a T-junction, indicate that there was formerly a building or structure here. A cattle trackway crosses the E half of the interior and cuts through the bank at NE. There is a bullaun stone (CL008-045023-) c. 45m to the E and another cashel (CL008-045004-) c. 57m to the SSW. - CL008-045011 Ringfort - cashel
Description
On a low rise in undulating pastureland and outcropping karstic limestone, within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL009-001001-). A large modern quarry lies c. 48m to the NNW. This subcircular bivallate cashel is defined by two concentric double-faced limestone walls and at least five intervening radial walls. The inner wall (int. dims. 36m N-S; 31m E-W; Wth 2.6-3m; int. H 0.6-1m; ext. H 0.1-1m) best preserved from SW-WNW, where several courses of the randomly coursed wall survive intact. Along the circumference, several large upright slabs, aligned perpendicular to the revetting, are visible within the rubble core of the wall. Two such slabs, 4.1m apart at E, with a low mound between them, may mark the entrance gap flanked by two jambstones. The outer wall (int. dims. 68m E-W; 67m N-S; Wth 2.2-2.6m; int. H 0.4-1m; ext. H 0.3-1.5m) is best preserved at SW. Traces of the inner and outer revetments are visible intermittently. At least five radial walls (Wth 2m; H 0.5m) are visible in the area between the two walls from S to NE. A modern sheepfold at N may overlie another one. Later field walls, two running ENE-WSW, cross the cashel walls at NE and SE, while a third one, running NNW-SSW, also crosses the outer wall at SE. - CL008-115 Enclosure
Description
In undulating rough pastureland with limestone outcrops, within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL009-001001-). This subcircular enclosure (int. diams. 28.2m E-W; 25.6m N-S) is defined by a round topped, earth and stone bank (base Wth 4-4.5m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.45-1.5m), cut by several livestock gaps. Extending N from the NW and NE arcs of the enclosure are two parallel, collapsed and grass-covered walls. Several depressions in the area between these walls are probably the result of quarrying. - CL008-116 Barrow - unclassified
Description
On a hilltop in rough, boggy pasture, with wide views. The site comprises a very low (H 0.2m), subcircular mound (17m E-W; 16.5m N-S) surrounded by a wide, shallow fosse (Wth c. 2m; D 0.15-0.25m) SSE-W-NNE, and by a faint scarp NNE-E-SSE. A low, earthen bank (Wth 2.6m; H 0.1m) survives along the edge of the mound SSE-W. Two barrows are visible nearby; CL008-117---- c. 170m to the SSW and CL008-118---- c. 160m to the SE.
