Description
In pasture on a slight W-facing slope with moderate views in all directions. Depicted on the 1840 OS 6-inch map as a sub-rectangular shaped area (approx. diam. 38m) defined by a field boundary enclosing a tree-planted interior. No surface remains visible when visited by the ASI in 2000. The outline of the levelled monument is visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018. Not depicted as an antiquity on any ed. OS map, possibly the remains of a post-1700 tree plantation. Known locally as the site of a 'fort' (SMR File). Description
In pasture on a slight S-facing slope with good views in all directions. Enclosure (LI022-074----) located 170m to SE. Surveyed by ASI in 2000 and described as a raised circular-shaped area (diam. 28m) defined by a scarped edge (H 1.5m; Wth 2m) with an external fosse (H 0.3m; base Wth 1.95m) visible from E to NW. Trees have been planted on the scarp while the shallow fosse appears in-filled in many areas. The interior is level. The overgrown enclosing element is visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018. Description
In low-lying pasture with Ballycahane Cottage 170m to WNW. Enclosure (LI022-069----) 170m to NW. Depicted on the 1840 OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped area (approx. dims. 30m N-S; 23m E-W) defined by a field boundary enclosing a tree-planted interior. No surface remains visible when visited by the ASI in 2000. The monument is not visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018. Not depicted as an antiquity on any ed. OS map, possibly the remains of a post-1700 tree plantation associated with Ballycahane Cottage.
