Description
Access from private lane S of the road W of Hollywood Great crossroads. Known as 'Naptown' this 5 bay, two-storey house with loft has some features which may be late 17th century in date (Vernacular Buildings Survey of County Dublin, 1994). There is a two-storey return at the rear. Built of stone, plastered, with a high gabled roof which is slated (ext. dims. L 14.20m, Wth 7.50m, wall T 0.8m). A window at the centre of the front facade above eaves level is contained within a pediment of possible late 17th century date. Chimney over each gable. An entrance porch which is a later addition provides access to a first floor level over what is now the basement, formerly the ground floor. There is a dog-legged stairs in the interior. Historic semi-circular-shaped quarry (approx. diam. 60m) bisected by the public road which marks the townland boundary between Damastown and Hollywood Great as depicted on the 1837 ed. OSi six-inch map. Hachured as an oval-shaped hollow bisected by public road on the last edition of the OSi six-inch map. Detached five-bay Catholic church, c.1760, on a cruciform plan with bellcote to gable end.ROOF: Double pitched; slate; terracotta ridge tiles; cast-iron rainwater goods. WALLS: Rough cast render nap rendered plinth course; limestone plaque to sacristy wall listing parish priests since 1630. OPENINGS: Lancet windows; patent reveals; limestone cills; stained glass windows; windows to only one side of nave; pointed arched door openings; patent reveals; tongue & groove timber door. INTERIOR: T-plan coved ceiling; running moulded cornice; timber doric reredos, c.1760, with dentil course and panelled pedestals; timber Gothic altar rails; limestone holy water font.
