Description
Historic quarry located 130m ESE of Mallahow House. Roughly semi-circular-shaped quarry (approx. dims. 80m N-S x 60m E-W) second quarry (DU004-109----) 215m to the NW depicted on the 1837 ed. OSi six-inch map. On the 1837 ed OSi six-inch map the crescent shaped quarry is accessed from a roadway on the S leading off the public road 45m to the S. Annotated ‘Quarry (Disused)’ on the OSi 25-inch map. Depicted as a hachured area on the last edition of the OSi six-inch map. Visible as a grove of trees on the 2013-18 MapGenie orthoimage. - LH024-081 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a fairly steep S-facing slope. The cropmark of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 45m) defined by a single fosse (Wth c. 2-4m) is visible only on Apple Maps, which utilises a survey conducted by Bluesky International during June 2018. It is cut by the cropmark of an E-W field drain (Wth c. 8m) N of the centre, and there could be an entrance (Wth c. 5m) at S. It was first reported by Anthony Murphy. - LH024-082 Enclosure
Description
Situated on a shelf on a S-facing slope. The cropmark of a D-shaped enclosure (dims. c. 43m NNE-SSW; c. 32m WNW-ESE) defined by a single fosse feature (Wth c. 2m) is visible only on Apple Maps, which utilises a survey conducted by Bluesky International during June 2018. There is a second outer fosse c. 3m outside the defining feature around the curved part SE-SW, and a larger enclosure defined by the cropmarks of similar fosses could be attached to the E. Its full extent is not known as only the features approaching from the NE and SE are visible. It was first reported by Anthony Murphy. - DU004-020 Castle - motte
Description
Situated immediately south of road, on a south-facing slope under pasture. The site comprises a flat-topped circular mound (diam. at base 21m E-W; 27m N-S, diam. at top 8m; H 5m). Waterlogged area around base in the S may indicate the presence of a fosse. It has been defaced by livestock (Healy 1975, 16; Morris 1939, 189). Laneway located at its base to west. Curved bank west of laneway. Bank c.1m h., earthen with well-established tree line (c.3m width). Extends for c.16m. Extensive panoramic views from Lambay (E) to Howth/Dublin Mts (S) and Kildare (SW). Description
Geophysical survey (Licence no. 13R083) was undertaken at the site by the Discovery Programme as part of the ‘Late Iron Age and “Roman” Ireland’ project. Located at the summit of the hill the enclosure (25m diam.) is defined by a circular ditch (3-4m in width) with a causewayed entrance to the east.
