- GA116-117 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pastureland on top of a natural rise. Marked on the 1838 and 1920 editions of the OS 6-inch maps as a roughly subcircular enclosure (c. 32m NW-SE; c. 25m NE-SW). On inspection in July 1983, no visible surface trace survived. A slightly curving field bank at NE may have mirrored the outline of the enclosing element. A house has been built immediately to the S of it. Another rath (GA116-118----) lies c. 38m to the E and a possible rath (GA116-116----) lies c. 105m to the W. Description
On a hillock in rolling pastureland. Circular rath (diam. 33m), in fair condition, defined by a low bank (Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.2m) that is densely overgrown. At E it is overlain by a field wall. A rath (GA116-117----) and a possible rath (GA116-116----) lie c. 35m and c. 175m to the W respectively. Description
On top of a natural rise in grassland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map and the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16) as a roughly subcircular enclosure (c. 37m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE). The enclosing element is overlain by a field boundary from NW to NE on the 25-inch plan. On inspection in July 1983, apart from a slight curve in the field boundary at N, no visible surface trace survived.
