• ME002-010 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a rise with rock outcrop and on a slight W-facing slope in a low-lying landscape between drumlins. This is a raised circular and overgrown area with rock outcrop (diam. 18m N-S; c. 18m E-W; H 2.8-4.7m) within a circular overgrown area (diam. c. 46m N-S; 44.5m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (at E: Wth of base 7m; int. H 1.5m; ext. H 3m), with traces of an external fosse (at NNE: Wth of base 2.7m; ext. D 0.5m) NNW-SE. There is an entrance (Wth of base 2.2m) through the bank and traces of a causeway (Wth of top 3.2m; H 0.5m) at ESE. • ME002-011 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on a rise towards the W end of an E-W ridge. This is a raised circular grass and scrub-covered area (diam. 38m N-S; 36m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth of base 6-8m; int. H 0.7-0.9m; ext. H 3-3.6m) separated by a fosse (Wth of top 7-8.7m; Wth of base 2m; ext. D 1-1.5m) from an overgrown outer bank (at N: Wth of base 8.5m; ext. H 1.8m), which in places becomes a wide berm (at S: Wth 4m) with a slight bank (at S: Wth 3m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.8m) on its outer edge. The entrance through both the inner (Wth of base 2m) and outer (Wth of base 3.1m) banks with a causeway (Wth of top 3m; H 0.8m) across the fosse is at E (max. ext. diam. 70m E-W). Rath (ME002-013----) is c. 180m to the E and the possible rath (ME002-023----) is c. 90m to the W. • ME002-012 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on a rise towards the E end of an E-W ridge and just E of the summit. This is a subcircular grass and rush-covered area (dims 42m WNW-ESE; 35m NNE-SSW) that slopes down to the E (H 1.3m) which is defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 6-7m; int. H 1.3-1.6m; ext. H 2.6m) and hedge with an outer fosse (Wth of top 7-10m; Wth of base 2m; ext. D 0.3m) at E to 0.9m at W. The entrance (Wth of base 1.7m) and causeway (Wth of top 3.9m; H 0.2m) are at SSE, but there are other gaps at WNW and SE. There is a short length of an outer bank (L 9m; Wth of base 3.3m; int. H 1.5m; ext. H 0.9m) at N. Rath (ME002-011----) is c. 180m to the W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987).   Description

  Situated at the crest of the W-facing slope of an E-W drumlin ridge. It is not depicted on any OS map. It was described in 1968 as a circular grass-covered area (diam. 30m) that is defined by a slight scarp (SMR file). Rath (ME002-011----) is c. 90m to the E.
