- GA086-149 Ritual site - holy well
Description
In poorly drained grassland, 140m NE of a church (GA086-150001-). This well consists of a D-shaped hollow (N-S 0.95m, E-W 0.58m) delimited by a low drystone wall opening to SW and topped by a modern iron railing. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
- GA086-150001 Church
Description
On N face of a glacial ridge in undulating grassland; it stands at NE end of a modern rectilinear graveyard. Possibly a site of E. Chr. origin (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 605-6, also 609). Marked on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map as a rectangular church (c. 18m by c. 8m), aligned E-W. All that survives is a section of N wall (L 4m, H 3.4m) of a possible rectangular building, incorporated into the modern graveyard wall. The presence of a base-batter at its W end hints that this may preserve part of NW corner. Several cut-stone fragments, probably associated, are scattered around the graveyard. Two holy wells (GA086-150003-, GA086-149----) lie close by to NE and an enclosure (GA086-246----) lay 50m to SW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

- GA086-150003 Ritual site - holy well
Description
Some 35m NE of a church (GA086-150001-) and 110m SW of another holy well (GA086-149----). A natural spring well, dry at the time of visit, enclosed by a rectangular drystone wall (N-S 3.5, E-W 2.65m) opening to S. A small enclosure (N-S 4.8m, E-W 2.95m), similarly defined, adjoins it on E side. This is probably the well mentioned in OS letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 605-6) as being 'near the old church'. They record that a pattern was held here on Garland Sunday 'in honour of Saint Laan, the patron of the parish'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
