Description
In flat farmland, c. 50m N of Cartron House. A circular enclosure (D c. 45m) defined by a tree-lined earthen bank; known locally as 'a fort'. According to local information, there was 'an old house' within the interior, of which no visible surface trace survives. Description
On a hill summit in undulating grassland. Subcircular rath (N-S 31.5m, ENE-WSW 26.5m), in fair condition, defined by a low bank, and from NW through N to ENE by a scarp. There is a gap (Wth 2.8m) at SE. Within the interior, there is a large almost square depression (L 6.6m, Wth 6.3m) at NE and a probable souterrain (GA099-071001-) at N. Description
In N half of a ringfort (GA099-071----). What is visible is a T-shaped hollow (L 10.6m), the main part of which (L 5m, Wth 1.8m) runs E-W. Approximately halfway along it, a second hollow (L 5.6m, Wth 1.6m) opens off its N side and follows a N-S axis before terminating just inside the ringfort bank. Description
On a rise in farmland. Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1947) as an irregularly shaped enclosure (NW-SE c. 50m, E-W c. 40 m) immediately N of an ESE-WNW running field boundery. All that is now visible is an irregularly shaped area defined by a series of disjointed banks These appear to enclose a low hummock with a flat summit (6.5m by 4.7m). A castle site (GA099-072001-) lies immediately S of the field boundary and may be associated. Description
In farmland. In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Gyllernew Odonellan' (Nolan 1901b, 110). On 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1947), the castle is shown by a cross-shaped symbol within a semicircular enclosure (E-W c. 60m) immediately S of an ESE-WNW running field boundary. No visible surface trace of it survives but the enclosure is still extant. It consists of a semicircular area (ESE-WNW 53m) defined by two degraded banks and an intervening fosse from ESE through S to WNW. It is apparently truncated along N side by the field boundary. Traces of a possible causeway are visible at SE. A number of banks are visible in the interior. Another possible enclosure (GA099-072----) lies immediately N of the field boundary and may be associated.
