• GA017-083 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a prominent hillock in grassland. Known locally as 'Henegen's Fort' (Neary 1914, 113, no. 124), this poorly preserved oval rath (E-W 38.5m, N-S 24m) is defined by an inner scarp, intervening fosse and outer bank. The fosse survives from W through N to NE, and the outer bank from W to N. A gap at E may be original. A ringfort (GA017-084----) lies c. 300m to E. • GA017-084 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Some 300m E of a ringfort (GA017-083----). Known locally as 'Hill Fort', (Neary 1914, 113, no. 123), this poorly preserved subcircular rath (NE-SW 45m, NW-SE 40m) is defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. A field bank cuts the monument at ESE and SW, to S of which an inner scarp forms the enclosing element.   Description

  In tillage. Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1932) as a small circular mound (D c. 20m). This was confirmed by local information which suggests that it was of earthen construction and c. 2m in height. Recently levelled as a result of land clearance; a circular gravelly area now marks the spot.   In gently undulating farmland within the former demesne of Dunmore House, a late 18th-C mansion (Bence-Jones 1978, 116) which stands 170m to NNE. Poorly preserved oval enclosure (N-S 37m, E-W 25.5m) defined by a bank of earth and stone (H 0.9m max. ext.) and a narrow shallow external fosse (Wth 1m). The interior rises towards the centre. • Dunmore House, country house, 1730–1810 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay three-storey over half-basement house, built c.1790, but incorporating earlier house, and having bowed ends, and shallow entrance breakfront. Various returns to rear, one bing full height. Remains of hipped slate roof, two centrally placed cut limestone chimneystacks, and with limestone string course to eaves of breakfront. Ashlar limestone front façade, rendered to bow ends and rear elevation, with moulded plinth. Square-headed window openings, having voussoirs and tooled limestone sills, remains of six-over-six pane timber sliding sash window to south elevation. Round-headed door opening to front with dressed voussoirs and stone steps. Single-storey stable building to rear with coursed rubble walls, corrugated-iron roof with two rubble stone chimneystacks and cut-stone eaves course, and camber carriage arch to centre with cut-stone voussoirs.
