Description
In pasture, on NW-facing slope. Circular, slightly raised area (46m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.2m) N->SW; scarp with slight internallip SW->W; scarp (H 1.2m) elsewhere. Remains of limekiln in bank to NNE. Entrance (Wth 2m) to NE; line of well-embedded stones at base of bank on each side; many loose stones scattered about. External fosse (max. D 1.7m)NNE->SW; shallow to NE; deep to E and SE but overgrown with bushes. Interior slopes down to NW; planted with mature coniferous trees; three contiguous stones, each 1m in length, form line in S half of interior, 6m inside bank. Surrounding field fences removed; no visible surface trace of possible outer bank (E->S) hachured on 1904 OS 6-inch map and depicted as incorporated into field fence system. Description
On heathy bogland plateau, overlooking Lee River valley to N. Circle incomplete. Early account indicates circle of nine stones with two further stones set beyond entrance to form short passage; these are now missing. Five erect and three prostrate slabs survive, including inner entrance stones and axial stone. Orthostats are 0.9m to 1.3m L, 0.4m to 0.75m T and 0.5 to 0.9m H.
