  Description

  In rough stony pasture, on a rise on a S-facing slope. The remains of a circular hut site (diam. 6.6m) defined by traces of upright contiguous stone slabs (T 0.35m; max. H 0.5m) NE-SW and by intermittent traces of a scarp (H 0.15m) SW-NE, from which stones have been robbed. Rubble is scattered externally along the perimeter NE-SW. Some stones are embedded in the level interior. There is an enclosure (CO116-035001-) c. 50m to the NE and another enclosure (CO116-035002-) is c. 30m to the W.   Description

  In rough stony pasture, on a S-facing slope surrounded by mountains near the waterfall at the head of the Coomgira valley. An oval area (12m E-W; 9.5m N-S) is defined by intermittent traces of a low fern-covered earthen bank (Wth 0.9m; H 0.15m) best preserved along the SE-SW arc. The level interior is raised (H 0.7m) at S and cut into the upslope (D 0.5m) at N to compensate for the hillslope.   Description

  In rough stony pasture, on top of an elevation on a S-facing slope surrounded by mountains near the waterfall at the head of Coomgira valley. A circular area (diam. 9.8m) is defined by the intermittent traces of a low earthen bank (Wth 0.6m; H 0.15m) and traces of a scarp along the SW arc. The level interior is in pasture and is slightly uneven. There is a second enclosure (CO116-035001-) c. 55m to the NE. A recent rectangular stone-built animal shelter lies 5m to the S.   Description

  In rough pasture, on a S-facing slope. A horseshoe-shaped mound (12.6m NE-SW; 10.5m NW-SE; H 1.2m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. The opening (Wth 3.3m) faces a stream at NW. Patches of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil are exposed intermittently on the mound.   Description

  In rough pasture, on a level platform on a W-facing slope surrounded by mountains near the waterfall at the head of Coomgira valley. A circular area (diam. 10m) is defined by intermittent traces of a low earthen bank (Wth 0.8m; H 0.25m). A N-S stone wall truncates the E half and rushes grow in the interior.   Description

  In rough pasture, on a SE-facing slope in a valley at the E side of Hungry Hill. This monument constitutes the site of a possible standing stone. The stone was recorded in this location in 1996 and described as leaning to the NW and orientated NE-SW. In the course of field clearance work, the stone was moved to its present location (CO116-051----), c. 110m to the NW.   Description

  In rough pasture, on a S-facing slope surrounded by mountains near the waterfall at the head of Coomgira valley. A circular area (9.4m E-W; 9m N-S) is defined by traces of a low bank (Wth 1m; H 0.05-0.2m) with several sheep gaps and with some stones on top along its SW-N arc. The level interior, partially covered with rushes, is cut into the bank at N (D 0.5m) and raised (H 0.6m) at S to compensate for the hillslope. There are traces of a stone facing along the S arc. • CO116-049 Charcoal-making site
  Description

  In rough pasture, on a SW-facing hillslope, at the E side of Hungry Hill. A level D-shaped platform (7m NE-SW) with a straight SW side (L 10m) is cut (D 0.4m) into the upslope at the NE and is raised (H 0.5m) at the SW where it is revetted by the remains of a stone facing. Traces of charcoal fragments are exposed along the SW side and in the interior, consistent with a charcoal burner's site. It was probably in use when the iron smelter was in operation in Adrigole, c. 3km to E, in the 18th century. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
