Description
In pasture, on N-facing slope. Circular area (24m E-W) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1m; ext. H 1.6m) to E; low rise elsewhere. Remaining bank incorporated into field fence system and skirted by farm laneway. According to local information, fort levelled early 1950s. Recorded by Broker (1937, 51) as double-ramparted fort on Michael Bradley's land with inner bank surviving all round and outer bank only remaining 'in part'. 'It is said that unbaptised children were buried here' (Bowman 1934, 294). Souterrain (CO030-11502-) in interior. Description
In ringfort (CO030-11501). Bowman (1934, 294) recorded a hole 'c. 2ft by 1ft' in SW corner of fort which gave access to souterrain '7ft by 4ft' from which 'lining stones' had been removed. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
