Description
In damp pasture, on a slight NE-facing slope. Circular area (18m N-S; 20m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (Wth 4.7m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.8m) with external fosse (Wth 3.35m; D 0.15m). bank is best defined SE-SW (int. H 0.5m) but overgrown by scrub.. Breached (Wth 1.2m) in bank at ESE and twice at NNE (Wths 1.0m and 0.7m). Description
In wet pasture abutting the townland boundary with Dromkeen. The ringfort (LI024-002----) known as ‘Gortavalley Fort’ lies 45m to SE. The enclosure is not depicted on historic OSi maps, nor is it visible on OSi orthoimages taken 2005-12 or on Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 50; AP 4/3717) as a U-shaped enclosure adjacent to a stream. The site is not visible on the most recent Google Earth orthoimages taken 28/06/2018. Description
In pasture 50m E of the townland boundary with Dromkeen. The ringfort (LI024-002----) known as ‘Gortavalley Fort’ lies 110m to NNE. The enclosure is not depicted on historic OSi maps. It is visible on OSi orthoimages taken 2005-12 as a circular enclosure surrounded by a fosse (ext. diam. c. 12m). It is not visible on the Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 49; AP 4/3717) as a U-shaped enclosure. The site is not visible on the most recent Google Earth orthoimages taken 28/06/2018. Description
On low-lying ground, cut by land drains and watercourses, in forestry. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Described by the ASI in 2005 as an oval-shaped cropmark identifed by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 265: AP 4/3717). Not visible on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-2013 or on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018, where the area is enclosed by a forestry exclusion zone.
