Description
In rough pasture, on the SE-facing slope of a ridge. A circular area (22m N-S; 24m E-W) defined by an eroded earthen bank (Wth 3m; int. H 1.3m; ext. H 0.8m) along the N and E arcs and by a scarp (H 1.3m) along the S and W arcs. The E arc is incorporated into a field boundary. A band of rushes (Wth c. 2.5m) may indicate the line of a silted-up fosse. The interior slopes down to SE and is covered in a thick growth of grass and rushes. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Description
In rough pasture, on top of the N-facing slope of a ridge. A raised oval area (26m N-S; 32m E-W) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 2m) with possible stone kerb along the internal face of the bank at N. There is a possible entrance (Wth 5m) at NE. A shallow external fosse (Wth 3m), evident S-NE, is overgrown with rushes. A field boundary skirts the fosse S-NW while E-S the fosse is recut with upcast added to the external face of the bank.
