- CL014-004 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a SSE-facing pasture slope. Hachured on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1920) editions of the OS 6-inch map, and named ‘Liscoul’ on the OS 25-inch plan (1897) Cassini edition (1920) of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). This subcircular rath (diams. 28m E-W; 26.25m N-S) is defined by a very low bank (int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.3-0.6m; Wth 2m) from WSW-W-NNW which is reduced to a scarp elsewhere (H 0.1-0.75m). A. A low natural scarp (H 0.2m) runs outside the rath from SE-S-W. There is a field-clearance cairn in the NE sector of the rath’s interior, which is otherwise level and featureless. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 3-10-2025
- CL014-005 Ringfort - cashel
Description
In pasture on the gentle S-facing slope of a low NNW-SSE running ridge, with steeply sloping ground just to the SW and wide views in all directions. Hachured and labelled ‘Cahergillaun’ on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1920) editions of the OS 6-inch map. This subrectangular cashel (25-32m ENE-WSW; 29m NNW-SSE) is defined by a low, collapsed and grass-covered stone spread (int. H 0-0.2m; Wth 1.1-1.5m; ext. H 0.1-1.1m) with upright slabs of outer wall facing intermittently visible. Several livestock gaps cut through the enclosing element and there are several low, grass-covered cairns along the E edge and NW sector of the cashel’s undulating interior. - CL014-006 Ringfort - cashel
Description
In a level marshy area overlooked by higher ground to the NW, N and S. Hachured on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1920) editions of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). This subcircular cashel (diams. 27.2m N-S; 24.5m E-W) is defined from W-N-NNE by a very low collapsed and grass-covered rubble spread (H 0.2m; Wth 2.9m). Elsewhere, the wall’s core has been removed, leaving only the intermittent remains of its inner and outer facing stones (Wth 2-3m; H 0.1-0.15m). From NE-E-SE a clearance cairn or wall rubble lie on the line of the cashel wall and there are two narrow livestock gaps at SE. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 3-10-2025
- CL014-024 Ringfort - cashel
Description
On a slight rise in hilly pasture, overlooked by higher ground to the E and SE. Hachured on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1920) editions of the OS 6-inch map, and labelled ‘Lislorkan’ on the latter. Listed as ‘Ringfort’ in the RMP (1996). This subcircular cashel (diams. 28.5m E-W; 26.5m N-S) is defined from W-N-NE by a grass-covered rubble wall and associated collapse (combined Wth 3m; max. H 0.6m). The monument is bisected by a stone wall running ENE-WSW across the interior and the enclosing element has been reduced to a low scarp on either side of this wall at ENE. From E-SE-SSW, the enclosing element only survives as a low overgrown stony scarp (H 0.4m) which rises at SSW(H 1.9m) , where it has also been partly dug away. The cashel is truncated from WSW-W by a public road. Outside the cashel wall from WNW-NE, a faint depression (Wth 2m), suggests an external fosse. The cashel interior is level and contains field-clearance rubble in the S sector. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 6-10-2025
