  Description

  In a low-lying landscape. An overgrown natural spring is surrounded by a rectangular drystone-walled enclosure (dims 5.3m WNW-ESE; 5m NNW-SSE) which was built c. 1753 (OS Name Book). A limestone slab (RO041-026002-) (dims 0.6m x 0.45m; T 0.2m) with an inscription recording the building of the wall by Sir Marcus Lowther Crofton in Sep. 1780 (Siggins 1992, 77) is at the well. • RO042-001 Designed landscape - tree-ring
  Description

  Marked as a circular wooded enclosure (diam. c. 55m) on the 1837 and 1928 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated towards the bottom of a NW-facing slope. Described in 1981 as a drystone wall curving E-S-W (diam. c. 40m) but outside it was a stone spread (C 25m; max. Wth 2.7m) S-W (SMR file). It appears to have been a landscape feature, and cannot now be seen at ground level apart from some straight sections of a field bank curving NE-S-W (dim. c. 50m NE-SW).   Description

  Marked as an oval wood described in gothic lettering as 'Fort Derham' on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a N-facing slope. This is an oval grass-covered area with tree-stumps (dims 147m NW-SE; 55m NE-SW) defined by the slight dip of a ditch (Wth c. 2.5m), but the perimeter survives as a flat-bottomed ditch (Wth of top 3m; Wth of base 1m; int. D 1.75m; ext. D 1.2m) with stone cladding on the inner face of the ditch WSW-SW and at NW. There is an entrance (Wth 2.1m) at NW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

  Description

  Marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as 'Seat', and situated on a N-facing slope in the demesne of Moat Park House. It is described locally as a stone (Wth c. 1.2m) set up like an armchair which was removed in land reclamation. A photograph which was probably taken in the 1960s in the Photographic archive of the National Monuments Service shows a two-person garden seat with a spiral, a face and a crest carved on the seat-back.   Description

  Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 50m) on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated towards the bottom of a N-facing slope in a slight E-W valley. Described in 1972 as a circular area (diam. c. 40m) defined by a fosse (Wth of top c. 4m; D c. 0.3m) (SMR file).   Description

  On a level landscape at the bottom of a N-facing slope. D-shaped area within a coniferous forest (dims 43.3m NNE-SSW; 32.8m WNW-ESE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.1-5.3m; int. H 0.45-1.05m; ext. H 1.2-1.65) separated by a fosse (Wth of top 4.5-4.8m; Wth of base 1.1-1.5m; D 0.9-1m) from a slight outer bank (Wth 3.2-3.9m; H 0.1-0.55m). The entrance through the inner (Wth 1.2m) and outer (Wth 6.3m) banks and a causeway (Wth 3.5m) are at ESE, but the perimeter is truncated by a NW-SW field bank at NW (max. ext. dim. 58.8m NNE-SSW).   Description

  On a flat, low-lying landscape. Circular area (diam. 32.6m NNE-SSW; 31.8m WNW-ESE) within a coniferous forest defined by an earthen bank (Wth 6.1-7.3m; int. H 0.75-0.9m; ext. H 1.9m) separated by a rounded fosse (Wth of top 5.8-7m; Wth of base 1.7-2.1m; D 1-1.1m) from an outer bank (Wth 3.2-3.9m; H 0.25-0.4m).   Description

  Marked similarly on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated towards the top of the NNW-facing slope of a NE-SW ridge. This is an oval platform with a beech plantation (dims 46.5m WNW-ESE; 28.7m NNE-SSW) defined by a fosse (Wth of top 7m; Wth of base 1.1-1.4m; int. D 1.55-2.1m; ext. D 1.75-2.7m) and an outer bank (Wth 5.8-8.8m; H 0.3-0.4m). There is no identifiable original entrance and the inner face of the fosse has an almost vertical stone facing. • RO042-016001 Church
  Description

  The parish church of Kilmaine, listed as Kilmedan in the ecclesiastical taxation of Elphin in 1306 (Cal. doc. Ire., vol. 5, 224). Situated towards the top of a NW-facing slope. This is a rectangular structure (ext. dims 15.45m E-W; 7.9m N-S), which was revamped and may have been used into the 19th century, with the walls surviving complete. There is a modern doorway in the W gable with modern windows in the E and S walls, but blocked doorways towards the W and E ends of the N wall are original as well as the E ingoing of the S window. A Crofton mausoleum is attached to the E end of the S wall, and another structure was attached to the SW angle, represented by a wall-footing. The church is within a rectangular graveyard (RO042-016002-) (dims c. 60m N-S; c. 35m E-W) defined by drystone walls which contains a headstone (RO042-016008-) commemorating Cate Quin, dated 1698. The graveyard is within a circular ecclesiastical enclosure (RO042-016007-) (diam. c. 80m) planted with deciduous trees and defined by a drystone wall with a scarp at N and E. Outside the enclosure to the SE is a wayside cross (RO042-016005-) (dims 0.21m x 0.21m; H 1.34m) with the name 'Edm Kely' and the date 1633 (Siggins 1986b, 34), although the date has been read as 1639 (Anon. 1888-91).
