• OF041-002 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on top of high ground in upland area of undulating countryside. Recently bulldozed site during field clearing operations, no surface trace visible. Site consisted of a roughly circular platform (diam 32m) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 1.8m - 3.2m; int. H 0.5m) and outer fosse (Wth 4.4m; ext. D 0.45m) which does not enclose the site at NE where the site is defended by the natural slope of the ground (Stout 1984). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). • OF041-003 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the NW facing slope of rising ground in upland area in undulating countryside. The site was bulldozed in the 1970's and described by Wheeler (ASI file 1974) as a D-shaped (42m diam) enclosure enclosed by an earth and stone bank with a lot of loose stone on top of the bank with no evidence of an outer fosse. The ringfort appears to have been built into the NW face of the hill.
