Description
Located on a knoll towards the bottom of a N-facing slope and overlooking a small S-N stream c. 30m to the W. This is a subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (int. dims 30.4m NE-SW; 26.2m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank with traces of an external fosse, most visible at S and N (Wth of top 3m; Wth of base 1.6m; ext. D 0.2m). An entrance (Wth of base 2.2m) with traces of a causeway at NNE might be the original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). permission for the construction of a 38kv electricity substation, switchroom and equipment compound with palisade fence; the construction of approximately 400m of site access track and the upgrading of approximately 150m of existing agricultural track and an existing agricultural site entrance; approximately 200m of underground cabling and all associated site development and reinstatement works in the townland of Luppan, County Monaghan; and (ii) the installation of approximately 22km of 38kV electricity cables from the proposed substation to the existing electricity substation in the townland of Lisdrumdoagh, County Monaghan. The electricity cables will comprise approximately 17km of overhead line and approximately 5 km of underground line. Overhead lines will consist of 3 no. cables suspended from wooden poles with a maximum height of 16 metres, and all associated site development and reinstatement works. Underground cables will be located within private lands and within the public roads numbered L5171, L1400 and L1171; will be installed in excavated trenches of approximately 1.2m in depth and will include associated underground ducting, joint bays, communication chamber bays, sheath link boxes and inspection chambers; directional drilling beneath the N12 and Ulster Canal and all associated site development and reinstatement works. A vehicle access track of up to 4m in width will be provided immediately adjacent to underground cables with private lands. This planning application is accompanied by an Environmental Impact Assessment Report which includes an assessment of the likely impacts of the proposed development, as a whole and in combination with the relevant off-site or secondary developments which will occur as a direct result of the proposed development, including the wind farm development permitted pursuant to Monaghan County Council Planning Register Reference 10/110 & An Bord Pleanála Reference PL18.240760 and proposed to be amended by planning reference 17/258 & An Bord Pleanála Reference PL18.300998 (currently under construction). A Natura Impact Statement will also be submitted to the planning authority with the planning application. This application is accompanied by an EIAR. Description
Located at the E end of a WNW-ESE drumlin ridge. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. c. 37m) defined by an earthen bank (art S: Wth of base 6m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 3m) separated by a fosse (Wth of base 1.7m) from an outer earthen bank. There is an entrance through the inner (Wth of base 2.7m) and outer (Wth of base 2.9m) banks and a causeway (Wth of top 4.4m; H 1.2m) at E, and the monument is surrounded by an earthen field bank (at ESE: Wth 3.1m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.55m) NE-SE with an entrance (Wth of base 5.4m) through it at E. There is a souterrain (MO010-014002-) inside the perimeter at N and a house-site (MO010-014003-) at the centre. Description
Situated just N of the centre of rath (MO010-014001-) and leading N from a rectangular mound or hut site (MO010-014003-). It is described (McCormick 1978, 326) as a passage or chamber (L 2m; Wth c. 1m; H 0.4-1m) with drystone walls and a lintelled roof that is entered at the S. At the N end a creep (L 0.7m; Wth 0.4m), roofed with a single lintel, leads to an inner chamber (L 2.3m plus N-S; Wth 0.45m at N to c. 0.9m at S; H 0.5m at N to 1.2m at S) that is damaged at the N end.
