• ME036-037 Barrow - bowl-barrow
  Description

  Situated in a fairly level landscape. It is depicted as a small area of scrub on the 1836 edition of the OS 6-inch map and as a small irregularly-shaped hachured feature on the 1912 edition. This is an oval grass-covered and fairly flat-topped mound (dims of top 16.6m N-S; 5m E-W; dims of base 32m N-S; 22.5m E-W; H 2.5m at W to 3-3.6m generally) with some deciduous trees planted on a scarp (Wth 1.3-1.8m; H 0.5-0.8m) at the base. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). • ME036-038001 Souterrain
  Description

  Situated in a fairly level landscape. A souterrain was discovered c. 1930 while digging for gravel in a field known as the ‘Clump field’, a reference to the barrow (ME036-037----) c. 100m to the N. It was described after the event (NMI file) as a circular chamber ‘diam. 9 feet (c. 2.75m)’ with a passage ’16 feet (c. 4.9m) long by 3 feet (c. 0.9m) wide’ extending off to the NW. The passage was described as ‘roofless and 1 foot (c. 0.3m) high at the entrance to 5 feet high (c. 1.5m) at the chamber’.   Description

  Situated in a gently undulating landscape. The cropmark of an oval enclosure (dims c. 70m ENE-WSW; c. 50m NNW-SSE) defined by a single fosse is visible on Google Earth (27/06/2019; 17/03/2022; 03/04/2022). It is also visible on Bing images and it was first reported by Jean Charles Caillére.
