• MO003-041 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a local rise. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 38.6m ENE-WSW; 38m NNW-SSE) sloping down slightly to the NE, which is defined by an overgrown earthen bank S-W-N and a complete external fosse that is re-cut as a drain. There are gaps through the bank at N and SE but the original entrance is not identified. Rath (MO003-042----) is c. 120m to the S. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). • MO003-042 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on a SE-facing slope. This is a circular grass and rush-covered area (diam. 36m E-W; 34m N-S) that slopes down to the SE, which is defined by an overgrown earthen bank best preserved SW-NW (int. H c. 1m) where it is incorporated into a field bank. There is an outer fosse, which has probably been re-cut WSW-N. There are many gaps in the bank but the original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
