Description
Situated on top of a small drumlin overlooking Lough Avaghon, the NE shore of which is c. 270m to the SW. This is a subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 30.5m NW-SE; 27m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank that is planted with trees. An outer fosse (at NE: Wth of top 4.4m; Wth of base 3.5m; ext. D 0.6m) is visible N-E-SW. The entrance (Wth of base 2.8m) and causeway (Wth of top 2.2m; H 0.9m) are at E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). Description
Detached four-bay single-storey parish hall, dated 1886, southernmost entrance bay being slightly recessed and lower. Gablet to middle of three-bay part. Pitched slate roof, with terracotta ridge crestings to higher part, and cast-iron cross finial to gablet. Render removed, exposing rubble limestone walls. Inscribed round date plaque with red brick surround. Square-headed window openings with cut-stone sills, and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Pointed-arch timber window to south gable. Blocked square-headed door openings to rear elevation. Square-headed door opening to porch with recent steps, and recent square-headed opening to rear elevation, both with replacement timber battened doors. Set in own grounds, close to road junction.

Description
Freestanding six-bay Roman Catholic church, built 1823, with lower gable-fronted entrance porches to front (west) elevation and sacristy and bell tower to east elevation. Pitched artificial slate roof, with rendered chimneystack to sacristy, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with painted stone quoins. Pointed-arch window openings with painted stone sills and leaded stained-glass windows. Square-headed door openings set in porches with render surrounds and replacement timber panelled doors. Dressed bell tower having cut sandstone quoins and belfry with cast-iron bell. Interior has altar in middle of rear long wall. Carved timber altar and reredos, and timber pews, and recent battened ceiling. Set within graveyard, with square–profile pained ashlar stone piers with wrought-iron gate to rendered boundary wall.
