• MO009-015 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on the spine of a N-S drumlin ridge with higher parts of the ridge to the S. This was described in 1968 as a raised oval grass-covered area (dims 32.6m NE-SW; 27m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank, which was reduced to a scarp (at E: Wth 2.3m; H 0.8m) almost everywhere, and a complete outer fosse (at WNW: Wth of top 3.7m; D 0.4m). There was an outer field bank SE-SW, but the original entrance was not recognised. It had been largely removed by 2005 (OSAP). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). • MO009-016 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located just off the E edge of a N-S drumlin ridge. A circular enclosure with trees on the perimeter (diam. c. 40m), which is described in gothic script as a ‘fort’, is depicted only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map. A curve of a field bank E-SW survived in 1984 and could have incorporated part of the bank, but this had been removed by 1995 (OSAP).
