Description
In pasture, on S-facing slope below brow of low hill. Circular area (22.3m N-S; 22.2m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.95m). Bank, best preserved SE->NW, lowers at NE where it has been denuded by cattle. Interior, under pasture, slopes down to SW. Field boundary clearance debris has been dumped against outer face of bank SW->NW. In pasture, on W-facing slope. Circular area (24.5m N-S; 24m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank, with external fosse (D 0.3m; Wth 1.1m) SSE->SSW. Bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 1.3m) is highest S->N where slope of ground is greatest; Bank grades to scarped edge (int. H 0.15m; ext. H 1.3m) along W arc. Level interior under pasture. Description
In pasture, atop ridge. Sub-circular area (35m N-S; 38m E-W) enclosed by two concentric earthen banks, with intervening fosse (Wth 2.2m). Outer bank (int. H 0.85m; ext. H 0.95m) incorporated into field boundary system E->WSW, where it is heavily masked by overgrowth, so that site occupies SE corner of field. Inner bank (int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.1m), best preserved WSW->N, lowers NNW->ENE (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.45m). Interior, under pasture, has fenced-off area containing haystack just inside bank at E. In pasture, on gentle S-facing slope. Circular area (diam. 29.8m) enclosed by earthen bank with external fosse (D 0.95m; Wth 1.3m). Bank (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1m), covered by hawthorn bushes, is best preserved E->NW. Causeway entrance at N (Wth 4m). Fosse is truncated by field boundary NE->E. Low earth-and-stone counterscarp bank (H 0.3m; Wth 4m) E->NW. Description
In pasture, on low rise in gently undulating terrain. Circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by scarped edge (H 2.1m; Wth 4.75m) with external fosse (Wth 2.1m) and counterscarp bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.85m). Enclosing element is almost completely obscured by undergrowth. Scarp is best preserved along E side, but lowers towards W (H 1.6m). Counterscarp bank is overlain by dry-stone field boundary at NNW->N and SE->SSW; site occupies SW corner of field. Gaps in bank at NW (Wth 1.5m) and NNE (Wth 4.1m). Description
Detached three-bay single-storey direct entry thatched house, built c. 1800. Having extension to rear (north) elevation. Hipped thatched roof to main block with red brick chimneystack. Pitched slate roof having red brick chimneystack, render copings, terracotta ridge tiles and cast-iron rainwater goods to extension. Rendered walls, rubble stone visible in places. Gable wall to west elevation rebuilt, with recess to wall, round-headed openings with brick voussoirs visible. Square-headed openings with two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Render surround to window to east elevation, extension. Square-headed openings to north elevation having render surrounds and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed opening to west elevation of extension with timber framed window. Square-headed opening to front (south) elevation having timber battened door.
