Description
Located on the W shoulder of a small E-W drumlin. This is an overgrown circular area (diam. 40m N-S; 38m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (at W: Wth of base 3.2m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 2.6m), and an outer fosse (at W: Wth of top 5.4m; Wth of base 1.3m; ext. D 0.4m) that is absent S-W and probably re-cut NW-E-S. The entrance may be the gap (Wth of base 1m) at NW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). Description
Freestanding three-bay single-storey gable-fronted masonic hall, dated 1927, with lower single-storey flat-roofed porch recessed to front, and lean-to unit recessed to rear. Pitched asbestos slate roof with timber fascia and soffit, brick chimneystack, metal roof vent, and replacement rainwater goods. Walls roughcast rendered above sill level and smooth rendered below, with smooth rendered block-and-start quoins to porch. Gable has render timber-frame effect detailing, with mason's square detail and date '1927'. Square-headed window and door openings with replacement fittings. Recent steel railing and gate, with smooth rendered plinth walls and piers having pyramidal caps, to street front. Concrete forecourt inside gate, with lawns to each side.

Description
Detached three-bay three-storey house, built c.1820, with two-bay side elevations. Carriage arch to east side giving access to yard to rear. Hipped slate roof with pair of red brick chimneystacks to middle of ridge, having rendered string courses and copings, and with cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls to front elevation, with whitewashed rubble stone walls to other elevations, smooth rendered channelled quoins and smooth rendered plinth course. Square-headed window openings, those to ground floor front being set into round-headed recesses, those to first floor front end bays being tripartite and having clustered colonettes to mullions, with timber sliding sash windows, six-over-six pane to lower floors and six-over-three pane to top floor. Elaborate timber doorcase comprising square-headed door opening and flanking fixed-pane sidelights, flanked by panelled pilasters with plinths and moulded scroll brackets with other decorative devices, supporting moulded lintel, with two-tiered spoked fanlight, and with moulded surround. Two-storey outbuilding to rear having projecting gabled bay with carriage arch to ground floor and pitching door above, corrugated-iron roof, rubble stone walls and mainly square-headed window and door openings with brick surrounds. Entrance to yard comprises segmental-arch vehicular gateway with dressed stone voussoirs, stone coping, and recent double-leaf metal gate.

Five-bay two-storey former market house, built c.1830, having arcading to ground floor of middle bays with carriage archway to centre, and slightly projecting end bays. Attached at west side by recessed terrace. Hipped natural slate roof with over-sailing eaves to recessed bays, pair of red brick chimneystacks to hips, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Ashlar limestone to arcade, with imposts to piers, and ashlar limestone framing ground floor of end bays, rubble stone built to courses to first floor over arcade, with cut limestone quoins to front corners of first floor of end bays, and red brick otherwise to end bays and as fill over stone plinths to end bays of arcade. Stone sill course to first floor. Round-headed windows to end bays of arcade and square-headed or slightly camber-headed elsewhere, those to first floor of end bays set into elliptical-arch recesses. Timber sliding sash windows, three-over-six pane with fanlights to ground floor middle bays and six-over-six pane elsewhere, with stone sills to ground floor. End bays have square-headed door openings, each having battened timber door with ornate strap hinges, paned overlight, and set within square-headed recess, approached by one step. Carriage archway has double-leaf wrought-iron gate. Cobbled surface to interior of archway.

Pitched replacement slate roof, with smooth rendered chimneystacks, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth rendered plinth course. Square-headed window openings with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to first floor, three-over-three pane to top floor, with painted stone sills. Square-headed door opening with replacement uPVC door and overlight. Carriage arch is segmental headed with double-leaf battened timber door, and stone wheelguard. Former shop comprises square-headed four-pane fixed timber display windows with concrete sills flanking square-headed door opening with replacement double-leaf timber battened door, and glazed overlight, with timber fasciaboard above. House is part of two-house centrepiece, within recessed space at centre of Newbliss.

End of terrace five-bay three-storey house and coaching inn, built c.1820, with integral carriage arch to middle of ground floor, public house to west end of ground floor and blocked former shopfront to east end. Pitched slate roof with smooth rendered chimneystacks. Rubble limestone walls, with stone sill course to first floor, refaced stone to public house front, and roughcast rendered south-west gable. Square-headed window openings to upper floors with red brick block-and-start surrounds and six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows, square-headed six-over-six pane with render surround in former doorway of former shopfront to easternmost bay of ground floor, and six-over-three pane with stone sills to top floor. Red brick framing to ground floor middle openings and to former shopfront. Integral carriage arch is segmental-arched with double-leaf battened timber doors, and other door openings have timber battened doors and geometrically glazed overlights. Replacement timber display windows and door to public house.

Detached four-bay two-storey former court house, built c.1820, with recessed entrance bay and six-bay two-storey return to rear. Now in use as local authority offices and depot. South-west end bay contains blocked up carriage arch and is likely later incorporation. Hipped natural slate roof, with three equally spaced smooth rendered chimneystacks with rendered copings, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings, with six-over-three pane timber sliding sash windows to first floor (some replacements), four-light timber casement windows within segmental-headed recesses to ground floor bays flanking entrance, all with stone sills. Rear has round-headed six-over-six pane timber sliding sash window, some six-over-three, and one four-over-four pane double window, remainder are replacement uPVC and timber casements. Square-headed door opening with replacement fittings, approached by stone steps with cast-iron bootscraper. Retains original timber staircase. Space in front of building bounded by iron railings to south-west end, atop rendered plinth wall.

Description
Cast-iron water pump, c.1885, and cast-iron hydrant, c.1870. Hydrant comprises fluted shaft and dome with acorn finial, foundry mark (illegible) and bucket shelf to base. Pump, erected c.1885, having banded shaft, fluted neck and curved cow's tail handle. Set in paved area to south-western approach to Newbliss.

Detached former parsonage, built c.1840, having three-bay single-storey front block, with dormer attic and gable-fronted breakfront having box-bay window to front again, and multiple-bay two-storey block slightly recessed to rear, and with three-bay single-storey lean-to addition. Pitched slate roof with timber brackets to eaves. Breakfront has cut-stone copings with human masks to kneelers, and octagonal-plan carved stone finial. Pair of centrally placed offset chimneystacks with terracotta pots. Rubble stone walls built to courses, with ashlar channelled quoins, castellated stone parapet to bay window. Square-headed openings with four-over-four pane timber sliding sash windows, triple to breakfront, double to elsewhere to front elevation and to gables, and variously single, double and triple to return block, and two round-headed windows to rear of front block with fixed timber frames and Y-tracery to fanlights, all with red brick voussoirs and surrounds. Round-headed door opening to west gable of front block, with timber panelled door and Y-traceried fanlight, and stone step. House located at end of long driveway entered via double-leaf cast-iron gate mounted on chamfered stone piers with pyramidal stone caps. Four-bay two-storey former coach house to rear of house, with pitched slate roof, rubble stone walls with red brick quoins, square-headed replacement windows and red brick surrounds and stone sills, square-headed doorways to southernmost bays with red brick surrounds and timber doors, round-headed double-leaf door opening surmounted by stone bracket with carved face to north of centre bay, with red brick surrounds and double-leaf battened timber door.
