Description
Internal diam. 27m. A circular area enclosed by an earthen bank and a silted-up fosse. It is divided by a modern field fence. It is situated on a hilltop overlooking Rossnowlagh Beach. Davies recorded traces of an outer bank. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Description
Attached Franciscan chapel associated with Rossnowlagh Franciscan friary (see 40910316), built c. 1952, having double-height six-bay nave with offset bell tower/campanile (on square-plan) attached to the south-east corner of the north-east elevation, shallow chancel to the north-west, single-storey flat-roofed addition to the north-east corner, and with various single-bay single-storey additions to the north-east and south-west elevations. Shallow pitched copper-sheeted roofs with raised ashlar granite coping to the south-east gable end having metal cross finial over gable apex, and with rendered kneeler stones/skew blocks at eaves level. Copper rainwater goods. Shallow pitched copper-sheeted roof to bell tower/campanile having metal Celtic cross finial over to the north east side. Roughcast rendered walls over rock-faced granite plinth. Round-headed window openings to side elevations of nave having ashlar granite block-and-start surrounds, leaded coloured glass windows. Three round-headed window openings to side elevations of chancel (north-east and south-west) having ashlar granite block-and-start surrounds, chamfered ashlar granite sills, leaded coloured glass windows. Three graded round-headed window openings to the entrance gable (south-east), over central doorway, having ashlar granite block-and-start surrounds, chamfered ashlar granite sills, and leaded stained glass windows. Paired round-headed window openings to either side of main doorway to entrance gable (south-east) having ashlar granite block-and-start surrounds, chamfered ashlar granite sills, and leaded windows. Square headed openings to bell tower/campanile having ashlar granite block-and-start surrounds; triple square-headed openings at belfry level having ashlar granite block-and-start surrounds and louvered fittings. Weather glazing to window openings. Central square-headed doorway to the entrance gable (south east) having chamfered ashlar granite surround, and timber panelled double-doors. Gallery to interior over entrance gable (south-east), mosaic tiled floor and shallow segmental plaster ceiling, segmental-headed recesses/niches to either side of altar. Open arcade with pitched roof and round-headed arches to the south-west of church. Set back from road in extensive grounds to the north of Ballyshannon, and a short distance to the south of Belalt Strand, Rossnowlagh. Forested areas to north-west of site, gardens to the south-west.

Description
Attached sixteen-bay two-storey rendered Franciscan friary on L-shaped plan, built c. 1950, forming U-shaped plan with attached Catholic chapel (see 40910302) to the north-east. Single-storey blocks to the north-east elevation of the block to the south-west. Open arcade with pitched roof over to the south-east end of courtyard. Now partially also in use as a museum (from 1954). Shallow pitched copper-sheeted roofs with roughcast rendered chimney tacks, ashlar granite coping to gable ends with rendered skew blocks\kneeler stones to eaves, and with copper rain-water goods. Roughcast rendered walls over rock-faced granite plinth course. Square-headed window-openings with ashlar granite sills and with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows; ashlar granite block-and-start surrounds to ground floor window openings. Some replacement windows. Full-height round-headed window opening to south-east gable end of block to the south-west having some coloured glass panels. Bowed window opening to north-east elevation of single-storey block to the north-east elevation of block to the south-west. Round-headed doorway to the north-west elevation of block to the north-west having ashlar granite surround with block-and-start detailing over, timber panelled double-doors, spoke fanlight over, and flanking sidelights with replacement windows. Square-headed doorways elsewhere to site. Garden and rockery to internal courtyard. Graveyard to site with gravemarkers of Franciscan friars, nativity grotto to west of site. Set back from road in extensive grounds to the north of Ballyshannon, and a short distance to the south of Belalt Strand, Rossnowlagh. Forested areas to north-west of site.

Description
Detached three-bay single-storey house built c. 1900, having two-bay single storey flat roofed extension to the south-west. Restored and extended to rear (south-east) c. 2006. Pitched natural slate roof with raised rendered coping and a central pair of smooth rendered chimneystacks with replacement terracotta pots over. Modern rooflights to the rear pitch (north-west) and flat roofs to extensions. Smooth rendered ruled-and-lined walls over projecting plinth, square-headed former window opening to east elevation at attic level. Square-headed window openings with replacement six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows with painted sills. Modern windows to extension to the rear (north-west). Central round-headed doorway to the front elevation having replacement timber panelled door, replacement surround of engaged timber colonnettes, and replacement petal fanlight over. Set back from the road with garden to site. Located adjacent to cliff face with panoramic views over Belalt Strand to the north and over Donegal Bay to the north-west. Modern wall and gateway to road-frontage to the south-east.

Description
Detached three-bay single-storey house with attic level and with raised basement level to north, built c. 1880, having slightly projecting breakfront to the centre bay to the north elevation with canted bay window at ground floor level over bowed projection at basement level. Now in use as holiday rental accommodation. Single-storey porch under catslide roof to the south elevation; single-storey over basement extension to the west elevation. Pitched natural slate roof having overhanging eaves supported on paired brackets, smooth rendered eaves course to north and south elevations, paired brackets to the eaves to the gable ends and with a central pair of smooth rendered chimneystacks. Modern rooflight to the north elevation. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows at ground floor level, and six-over-three pane timber sliding sash windows at basement level. Central four-over-four pane timber sliding sash window to canted bay having margin glazing bars. Some replacement window fittings. Square-headed door opening to the east elevation of porch to south elevation having timber panelled door and glazed overlight with margin glazing bars. Set back from road in own grounds with lawns and gravel forecourt to site. Former single-storey stables to the west now converted to accommodation. Gateway to the south-east comprising a pair of rendered gate piers (on square-plan); gates now gone. Overlooks Donegal Bay to the north and Belalt Strand to the north-east. Located on a cliff top to the north/north-west of Ballyshannon, and to the south-west of Rossnowlagh.

Detached three-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c. 1875, having central projecting single-bay flat-roofed entrance porch to the main elevation (south) and single-bay flat-roofed extension attached to the east gable end. Now also in use as tea rooms. Pitched thatched roof having ropes raised rendered verges and rendered chimneystacks to the gable ends (east and west). Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings having two-over-two-pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed doorway to east side of porch having timber door. Set back from road in own grounds to the south-west of Rossnowlagh and the north-west of Ballyshannon. Lawned gardens to site. Tarmacadam drive and lane from the main road to the south.
