• MA118-063 House - indeterminate date
  Description

  This monument is not shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, but is shown on the 1929 edition as a small circular hachured feature. When visited by the Ballinrobe Archaeological Survey in 1989 it was classed as a mound and recorded as follows: ‘In undulating pasture, atop rise. Raised (H 1m) circular area (8.6m N-S; 7.6m E-W) of earth and stone. Trees grow in interior.’ (Lavelle (1994, 51, no. 331). It is listed in the RMP (1997) as a mound. When inspection in 2018, grass cover had been eroded by farm stock exposing a low, double-faced straight wall (average width 1.1m) on the S-side. • MA118-064 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  When visited by the Ballinrobe Archaeological Survey in 1989 this cashel was recorded as follows: ‘On slight rise, in undulating pasture. Circular area (51.5m N-S; 48m E-W) enclosed by sod-covered stone wall (H 1.1m; Wth 1.7m), overlain by stone fence SW to N. Gap (Wth 1.6m) in ESE.’ (Lavelle (1994, 43, no. 263). An inspection in 2018 found that the cashel wall has been removed from NNE−SW, but its course can still be traced as a low grass-covered undulation. The W half of the cashel, where a later field wall overlies the lower courses of the original cashel wall, remains unchanged. There is a possible house (MA118-063----) 55m to W.
