Description
Situated on a S-facing slope of Pallis Hill. Raised, grass and fern-covered square area (dims. 36m E-W; 35m N-S) defined by earthen banks (Wth 3-5m; int. H 0.5-1m) with upturned corners. This is surrounded by a moat (Wth of top 4-5m; D below interior 1-1.5m), which is not visible at S where there may be an entrance. Rath (WX002-018----) is c. 90m to the E. Description
Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) that is truncated by a NE-SW field bank at SE on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. It is located on a S-facing slope of Pallis Hill. This is a circular, grass and scrub-covered area (diam. 30m) defined by wide low bank (Wth 5–6m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.5m) and an external fosse (Wth of top 5m; D 0.2m). There is no visible entrance. Situated on a gentle S and SW-facing slope of Pallis Hill. This is a raised rectangular platform (dims. 23m N-S; 17.5m E-W) covered in dense scrub, with traces of an internal bank at the NE angle. It is surrounded by a moat (Wth 6-7m; int. D 1-2m), but the moat does not survive on the S and much of the W sides. - WX002-019001 Castle - motte
Description
Situated on a S-facing slope of Pallis Hill. This is a grass and scrub-covered earthen mound (diam. of base c. 30m; H over fosse 6-8m) defined by wide, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth c. 4m; D 1.5m), not visible SE–SW. The summit has been quarried but originally was flat-topped (diam. c. 15m). There is a tradition of the discovery of an urn here (Kinahan 1882, 159).
