- WX002-061 Cross - Wayside cross
Description
Located in a slight col on a N-S spur, and on the W road bank of a NNW-SSE road. It was described as the stone cross of Ballie Lis in the Civil Survey (1654-56) where it was a marker for the boundary of Gorey Barony and Killinhugh parish (Simington 1953, 3, 5). This is the head of a square-cut (dims. 22cm x 21cm) granite cross of Latin type protruding through road fence (visible H 0.6m; spread of arms 0.7m). - WX006-004 Standing stone
Description
Marked only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and situated towards the bottom of a W-facing slope, with a N-S stream c. 350m to the W. It was recroded in 1939 as being oriented NE-SW (H c. 0.95m) (OSFM). The stone (dims. 0.8m x 0.4m; H 1.7m), which may be a limestone, was removed from its original position and in 1987 is lying by a field bank just to the E (WX006-089----). The ecclesiastical site (WX003-005----) is c. 120m to the NNE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). Description
Marked only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated towards the bottom of a W-facing slope, with a N-S stream c. 400m to the W. Nothing other than the map designation is known about the history and nature of the site, except that a stone lamp had been found here and forwarded to the NMI (OSFM 1940). No feature is visible at ground level in reclaimed pasture. Standing stone (WX005-004----) is c. 120m to the SSW.
