- WX052-035 Windmill
Description
Situated on a gently undulating landscape. A windmill in use is marked on the 1839 and 1925 eds of the OS 6-inch map. This is an ivy-covered conical tower (int. diam. of base c. 5m; ext. diam. c. 7m) of three floors with opposing doorways at E and W. There are two windows on each floor, and there is a foundation stone, now illegible, over the E doorway. The corn-drying kiln is just to the N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). Description
Freestanding single-bay three-stage conical windmill tower, dated ----; extant 1840, on a circular plan. In use, 1911. Disused, 1922. Now in ruins. Roof now missing. Creeper- or ivy-covered lime rendered or roughcast battered walls. Square-headed opposing door openings including one square-headed door opening below overgrown date stone ("----") with overgrown thresholds, and concealed timber beam lintels with no fittings surviving. Square-headed window openings (upper stages) with concealed dressings including rough hewn lintels. Interior in ruins retaining timber beams (top stage). Set in unkempt grounds.
