Description
Located on the N side of the ravine of a SW-NE stream which is c. 100m to the S, and c. 1km from where the stream joins the W-E River Slaney. This is a rectangular, scrub-covered area (dims. 35m E-W; 34m N-S) with a slight bank at N, defined by moats on all sides except the W where there is a N-S stream (Wth 4m; D 1.5m). The moat at N is flat-bottomed (Wth of top 7.7m; Wth of base 5m; int. D 1.2m; ext. D 1.5m) with an outer bank (Wth of base 4m; ext. H 0.5m). The moat at E is back-filled (Wth of top 6.2m; Wth of base 3.3m; int. D 0.6m; ext. D 0.6m), and at S it is round-bottomed (Wth of top 6.5m; int. D 2.2m; ext. D 1.7m) with slight traces of an outer bank (max. ext. dims 56m N-S; 45m E-W).
