  Description

  A well is marked on the 1839 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch and described in gothic lettering on both as St. Bridget’s Well. According to John O’Donovan writing c. 1840 there was no memory of a pattern (O’Flanagan 1933, vol. 1, 275). It is situated on a level, low-lying landscape with a small S-N stream c. 15m to the W. There is no visible remains at ground level in a cereal crop. The site of S. Bridget's church (WX048-008----) is c. 120m to the SSE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 9 January, 2014

  Description

  Synnott, writing c. 1680 lists a church dedicated to Bridget at Trimmer (Hore 1862, 68; 1921, 59). A small structure (dims c. 10m E-W; c. 6m N-S) described as the 'Site of RC Chapel' is marked on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. It is situated on a level, low-lying landscape. There are no visible remains of a structure, enclosure or burial at ground level in a cereal crop. The site of St Bridget's Well (WX048-007----) is c. 120m to the NNW of the church site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).
