Description
The Kennea and Cashel manors, established in the Planation were assigned to Lord Aubignie in 1611. The land subsequently passed to James Hamilton, and then to Sir Henry Piers, who built a bawn, castle, and town called Pierscourt, now called Shercock. The castle is said to stood on the site of the Roman Catholic church, which was built since 1835 (OS 6-inch map). There is no evidence of the castle or bawn. Date of upload: 15 April, 2016

Description
Sir Henry Piers apparently built a bawn, castle and town at Shercock in the early 17th century. The present Roman Catholic chapel in the town is believed to have been built on the site of the castle. Description
Raised circular area (int. diam. 28.7m) enclosed by two earthen banks with wide, shallow, intermediate fosse. Outer bank which is enclosed by a modern trench, has been scarped and faced externally with stone, in modern times. Break in inner bank with accompanying causeway at ESE probably represents original entrance. However there is no corresponding break in the outer bank. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). Description
End-of-terrace four-bay two-storey house, built 1919, set back below street level. Pitched slate roof, clay ridge tiles, cast-iron rainwater goods, rendered copings, red brick chimneystacks, one on north-west gable, one in ridge indicating hearth-lobby entrance configuration. Advanced single-storey gabled windbreak porch with slate roof and decorative bargeboards. Ruled-and-lined rendered walls over raised plinth, rectangular date stone to porch gable above keystone with frame and numerals in false relief reading ‘1919’ in hammer-dressed background. One-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows with plain reveals and stone sills. Rendered gable with exposed roughly coursed limestone rubble below roofline of former single-storey attached outbuilding. Opens to former footpath set below carriageway, now bounded by steel railings on stepped plinth.

Description
Freestanding Gothic Revival Roman Catholic church, built 1838, altered 1912-15. Three stage tower to south-east corner, three-bay gabled entrance front, three-bay nave with confessional projections, single bay chancel with flanking sacristies, extended as side porches 1987-8. Interior reordered and refurbished 1987-8. Pitched slate roof with raised barges and ogee kneelers, replacement rainwater goods. Pitched slate roofs to sacristies and porches. Hipped slate roofs to confessionals. Pyramidal copper roof to tower. Roughcast rendered walls over stone plinth course, having raised quoins to corners, tower, and sacristies. Pointed arch windows to nave and west gable with twin-light limestone tracery, stone sills, and hood mouldings over gable windows. Triple mullioned segmental-arched belfry opening. Three, four, and five lancet compositions to sacristies and confessionals. Ogee-headed entrance door in main gable having cut-stone surround and hood moulding. Label moulding over dedication date stone. String course below gable carried across tower below upper stage. Raised and fielded panelled double-leaf entrance door with panelling to sides and over-door. Interior with collegiate seating arrangement, having altar placed lengthwise in nave, and furnishings of 1988. Abstract relief Stations of the Cross of 1988. Flat coffered ceiling with deep coved edges with severies over windows, rising from a decorative string course sharing decorative motif of coffers. Four-centred chancel arch in two orders with triple engaged columns, octagonal-profile bases, foliate capitals, and square abaci to inner order, three-quarter roll to arris of outer order. Triple light window, timber panelled walls below Greek-key decorative plat band, and historic Stations of the Cross in crocketed pedimented frames to chancel. Altar and reredos of 1907 below east window. Carved timber ambo, pulpit, and nave altar of 1988. Ogee-headed hood mouldings to doors of confessionals. Set within graveyard.

Attached five-bay two-storey former bank manager’s house and attached three-bay two-storey bank, built c.1900. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, roughcast rendered chimneystacks with profiled copings on gables and over dividing wall, cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls over raised plinth course, raised stucco quoins, stucco plat band between storeys on domestic quarters, signage fascia with profiled cornice over bank premises, channelled rustication to bank frontage. Roughcast rendered walls to gable. Window openings to dwelling arranged in two groups with one window at first floor centred over pair at ground floor. One-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows having stone sills and raised stucco block-and-start Gibbsian-style surrounds, with prominent keystones to ground floor openings. Replacement door to house having matching stucco surround with keystone. Fixed casement windows to bank section, flanking replacement panelled door with glazed overlight. Two-storey returns to bank and house, having roughcast rendered walls, domestic return having stepped three-light casement windows. Outbuildings to rear. Opens directly on to street.

Description
Freestanding hall-and-tower Church of Ireland church, built c.1780, having three-bay nave with lower shallow chancel apse, three-stage tower added c.1830, vestry added to north-east and interior re-ordered 1865. Pitched slate roof, clay ridge tiles, stone barges, cast-iron rainwater goods. Faceted hipped slate roof to apse. Stepped crenellations to tower parapet, pinnacles to corners. Roughcast rendered walls to nave and tower over stone plinth, exposed rubble stone to apse and vestry. Raised dressed block-and-start stone quoins to tower, stone string courses defining stages. Louvre windows to belfry stage of tower, square-headed windows to middle stage. Stone surround to entrance, haivng double-leaf battened timber door with decorative ironwork. Nave fenestrated on the south side only, with stone sills and plain reveals. Twin-light stone tracery to chancel window with cusped heads and quinfoil roundel, c.1865. Twin-light multiple-paned timber windows to nave with switch-heads and ventilators to lower register. Flat ceiling and thin cornice moulding carried around apse to interior. Straight backed bench seats, pulpit, and reader’s desk c.1865, chancel table and rails of later date. Located within graveyard on an elevated site, having rubble stone boundary walls, square-profile ashlar limestone piers and double-leaf ironwork gates.

Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, erected c.1870, with round-profile fluted shaft, moulded base, and fluted domed cap with acorn finial. Lion’s head spout to front and tap handle to side. Manufacturers name on front reads ‘GLENFIELD & KENNEDY LD. KILMARNOCK’.

Description
Terraced three-bay two-storey house, built c.1800, with two-storey return to rear. Pitched slate roof, clay ridge tiles, rendered chimneystacks on gable and in ridge indicating a two-part internal plan, cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls to front elevation, roughly coursed limestone rubble to rear. One-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows with exposed sash boxes in irregular arrangement, having plain reveals and wide stone sills. Four panelled replacement door, frame set on plinths flush to facade. Opens directly on to street, with rear access from a common laneway at rear.

Description
Single-arch masonry road bridge, built c.1750, over water course. Roughly coursed rubble stone elevations and parapets with rounded render copings, parapet to upriver elevation with Scotch coping. Segmental arch having narrow roughly dressed voussoirs. Buttress to north west wing of limestone masonry blocks. Upriver elevation modified on the west side to accommodate road bend.
