  Description

  The parish church of St Michael is situated on a level, low-lying landscape, with the S shore of the original South Wexford harbour c. 600m to the N. The church is a rectangular structure (ext. dims 9m E-W; 5.8m N-S) defined by grass covered mounds with an entrance (Wth 1.3m) at W. This might be the chancel of a church with the nave removed. It is within a circular graveyard (diam. c. 30m) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 2.6-2.8m; int. H 0.4-0.7m; ext. H 1.45-2.2m), with a few late 19th century headstones inside the perimeter at S. The site of St Michael's Well, where patterns were held on 29th September (O'Flanagan 1933, vol. 1, 278-9) is c. 40m to the SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).   The parish church of St Michael (WX048-004001-) is situated on a level, low-lying landscape, with the S shore of the original South Wexford Harbour c. 600m to the N. • WX048-005 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  A well is marked on the 1839 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and described in gothic lettering as St. Michael’s Well on both. It is located on a level, low-lying landscape, c. 40m SW of the perimeter of the graveyard (WX048-003002-). According to John O’Donovan writing c. 1840 the pattern was held on 29 September until it was suppressed c. 1830 (O’Flanagan 1933, vol. 1, 278-9). There is no evidence of the well now, and the location has been built over. According to Christian tradition as revealed in the Book of Revelation St. Michael the Archangel defeated the forces of evil and banished Lucifer from Heaven. Devotion to St. Michael developed in the 4th century as the leader of the army of the righteous and was widespread in Europe by the 6th century. • Bushville, farm house, 1825–1840 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey over basement farmhouse, extant 1840, on a rectangular plan with three-bay full-height rear (south) elevation. Occupied, 1911. Hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks having corbelled stepped capping supporting terracotta or yellow terracotta pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on slate flagged eaves retaining cast-iron downpipes. Roughcast walls bellcast over rendered plinth. Segmental-headed central door opening approached by flight of three cut-granite steps, timber doorcase with panelled pilasters supporting shallow cornice, and concealed dressings having concave reveals framing timber panelled door having fanlight. Square-headed window openings with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings framing secondary glazing over six-over-six timber sash windows without horns. Interior including (ground floor): central hall retaining carved timber surrounds to door openings framing timber panelled doors; and carved timber surrounds to door openings to remainder framing timber panelled doors with timber panelled shutters to window openings. Set in landscaped grounds with rendered piers to perimeter having pyramidal capping supporting wrought iron double gates.
