  Description

  On a slight rise in pastureland. Poorly preserved and densely overgrown circular cashel (diam. 47.2m) defined by a drystone wall. Field-clearance rubble has been piled against the external wall-face at S. There is a souterrain (GA104-014003-) in the SW quadrant of the interior. A field system (GA104-014002-) lay immediately to the N; another possible rath (GA104-280----) lies c. 20m to the SW.   Description

  Description

  Within the SW quadrant of a cashel (GA104-014----). This drystone-built souterrain (L >9.6m) runs NNE-SSW and consists of a chamber (L 7m; Wth 1.8m; H 0.92m) with a hollow (L 2.6m) defined by drystone walling at its N end. Some 4m further to the N, a linear depression (L 6m), running NE-SW, may be a continuation of this chamber or it may indicate the presence of a second one.   Description

  In an area of improved pastureland and outcropping limestone. A small subcircular enclosure (8.3m E-W; 7.5m N-S) is defined by bank (Wth 1.5m; H 0.3m). A gap at NW may mark the original entrance. This may be a house site associated with the ecclesiastical enclosure (GA104-015004-) c. 12m to its W (pers. comm. Prof. E. Rynne December 1983). The area is densely overgrown with thorn bushes.   Description

  Within the interior of the E segment of an ecclesiastical enclosure (GA104-015004-). A raised area, much disturbed by badgers which have exposed numerous human bones, marks a burial ground associated with the enclosure (pers. comm. Prof. E. Rynne December 1983). • GA104-015004 Ecclesiastical enclosure
  Description

  In an area of improved pastureland and rock outcrop. This poorly preserved roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 63m) is defined by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 2.7m; H 0.4m). It is clipped at W by a N-S running field wall and at S by an E-W running one. A well-defined entrance gap (Wth 1.9m) at N is marked by two large boulders, that to the W (L 1.4m; Wth 1.5m; T 0.3m) has fallen while that to the E (H 1.15m; Wth 0.9m; T 0.5m) is set just inside the bank. Radial banks, running roughly NE-SW and NW-SE, divide the interior into four segments of differing sizes. In the E segment a raised platform may mark a small burial area (GA104-015001-); it has been disturbed by badgers which have exposed numerous human bones. The monument is densely overgrown with thorn bushes. A house site (GA104-015002-) c. 12m to the E may be associated. (O'Doherty 1984; Prof. E. Rynne pers. comm. • GA104-016 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pastureland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as an oval enclosure (c. 30m E-W; c. 20m N-S) contained within a small field. A 'Cave' (GA104-016001-) was depicted in the E sector of the interior. On the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16) the enclosure is indicated by a line of hachures curving from SSE to WSW. A 'Great Southern Railways' line, running NE-SW, cut through the NW half of the interior; the 'Cave' is depicted immediately to the SE of the trackway. McCaffrey (1952, 210, no. 133) recorded that it was 'Not present' when he surveyed the area. No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 17 July 2019

  Description

  In pastureland. Named 'Cave' and depicted within the E sector of a possible rath (GA104-016----) on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map. On the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16) it is named and shown immediately to the SE of the trackway of a 'Great Southern Railways' line that ran NE-SW cutting through the NW half of the rath.
