  Description

  This monument is indicated and named 'Old R.C. Chapel' on the OS 1st. ed. 6-inch sheet. There is no visible surface trace and a modern bungalow and garden occupy the site. Davies (1948, 96-7) had speculated that it may have been used for Catholic workship after the Reformation and noted only two surviving stones of the former church. Apparently an architectural fragment from the church was incorporated into a grotto beside an early 19th century church in Mountnugent.   Although this rath has been largely levelled and incorporated into the field boundary from SSW-W, the outline of the bank and fosse is still identifiable enclosing a circular area (diam. c. 40m).   Description

  Detached four-bay single-storey direct-entry vernacular house, built 1860, with windbreak entrance, early-twentieth century extension to south-west and link to north-east with original outbuilding. Pitched thatch roof of scalloped water reed with raised ridge and exposed oak wall plates. Corrugated asbestos roof to extensions. Rendered chimneystack and uPVC rainwater goods. Lime-washed random rubble walls with raised plinth. Replacement timber casement windows with squared limestone sills. Single deep-set window to rear elevations. Replacement timber and glazed doors, canted at junction to link. Limestone slab hood to windbreak. Uncoursed random rubble former cattle pen with forged gates. Random rubble stone boundary walls with dressed limestone piers bearing date, 1914.

• Ross Bridge, bridge, 1850–1890 · Regional interest
  Description

  Single-span segmental-arched limestone road bridge, built c.1870, over Upper Inny River. Random-coursed squared rock-faced spandrels, parapet and coping. Regular rock-faced voussoirs to arch ring with dressed underside and arris, squared rubble barrel, flanked by single buttress to north-west. Associated rubble field walls to south.
