- St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, church/chapel, 1820–1825 · Regional interest
Description
Freestanding Gothic Revival gable-fronted Roman Catholic church, built 1823, enlarged 1862, moved to current location 1942. Three-bay two-stage gable front having central breakfront as stepped buttress surmounted by bellcote. Seven-bay side elevations with crenellated porch at fourth bay south elevation, recent parochial centre to north elevation. Pitched slate roof with barge stones to gable parapets, gabled pinnacles to four corners, ashlar limestone bellcote with pointed arch opening to front gable, Celtic cross with trefoil ends on stepped bracket to rear gable, cast-iron gutters and replacement downpipes. Squared and snecked sandstone walls, with ashlar limestone details, diagonal buttresses to corners, angle buttresses to side porch. Angled weatherings to sides of breakfront, trefoil sandstone surround to ventilation opening below bellcote, quatrefoil limestone opening to rear gable with drip moulding. Lancet windows to upper level of front elevation, square-headed windows below. Pointed arch windows to north and south elevations with ashlar limestone surrounds and drip mouldings. Wider windows to the second bay from the east with Decorated-style traceries comprising roundel of cusped trefoils over three-light cusped lancets. Graduated lancet composition to east gable at clerestory level under a relieving arch, late Gothic window triplet below with supermullions and cusped lights, flanked by small lancets. Leaded stained glass windows throughout. Four-centred arches to doors with hood mouldings over spandrels having carved quatrefoils. Reredos behind altar, polychrome tiles to aisle, and timber gallery with confessionals below to west.

Description
Detached five-bay two-storey former market house, built c.1740, with arcaded ground floor of ashlar sandstone. Twentieth century extension to rear. Later in use as parochial hall, now in use as private house. Pitched slate roof with recent barge board and replacement rainwater goods. Recent roughcast render to upper storey with ashlar sandstone block-and-start quoins and plaque bearing inscription ‘HUMPHRYS PAROCHIAL HALL 1906’. Round-headed former arcade openings across full width to ground floor with plain ashlar piers and arch rings, square-profile impost, voussoirs and raised keystones, random rubble spandrels with string course above, having uPVC doors and windows. Smooth rendered surrounds, sills and uPVC windows to upper floor.

Description
Freestanding Church of Ireland church, built 1820, having four-bay nave elevations with three-stage tower to west, transept to south, vestry in corresponding position to north, and chancel to east added c.1890. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, cut-stone gable copings with plain kneelers and octagonal chimneystacks to apexes, cast-iron rainwater goods. Lower pitched roof to vestry. Castellated parapet to tower on corbel table with gabled and pinnacled corner turrets of ashlar with carved finials. Roughly coursed limestone walls, originally rendered, with raised irregular dressed ashlar quoins. Tower stages divided by string bands. Pointed arch louvred belfry openings to upper stage of tower with ashlar surround and drop mould, square-headed three-light window to middle stage with hood moulding and relieving arch of rubble sandstone. Round-headed windows in Late Gothic style with chamfered ashlar surrounds, drip moulds and twin-light ashlar traceries having roundels in heads, red brick relieving arches to original bays. Multiple-pane cast-iron windows incorporating ventilator panels. Three-light ashlar tracery of corresponding design to chancel with figurative stained-glass window. Square-headed window to vestry gable with hood moulding. Round-headed doorcase to south of tower with chamfered ashlar surround and drip mould, having double-leaf panelled doors with oculus in timber overpanel, ashlar limestone shield set above door. Exposed king-post trussed roof to interior with short chancel beyond wide chancel arch. Parlour pew at raised level in south transept. Engaged colonettes to parlour arch and window embrasures. Timber sloping sills and wainscoting throughout. Gallery to west end on grouped columns with open cusped trefoil-headed arch motif to front, matching pulpit and reader’s desk. Various wall monuments. Gothic style water font in tiled area leading to vestry door opposite transept. Square-profile rendered gate piers having ball finials, set in rendered boundary wall with steps leading to road.
