Recorded monuments
- GA107-115 Quarry
Description
On the N-face of a hillock in undulating pastureland. A hachured feature marked on the 1945 revision of the OS 6-inch map proved on inspection in 1984 to be disused sand and gravel pits. As it is of post-AD 1700 date it does not come within the remit of the Archaeological Survey of Ireland. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 11 August 2014
- GA107-116 Quarry
Description
This record relates to a disused gravel pit and a natural spring well. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 16 July 2015
- GA107-119 Ringfort - rath
Description
In undulating grassland. Marked on the 1945 revision of the OS 6-inch map as an oval enclosure (c. 50m N-S; c. 40m E-W). Known locally as a ‘fort’, it was levelled in the early 1970s. No visible surface trace survives, however, its outline is visible on the OSi Ortho_ITM aerial photography. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 2 April 2019
- GA107-120 Enclosure
Description
In undulating grassland. Shown on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a tree-lined subrectangular enclosure (NE-SW c. 37m; NW-SE c. 34m); a roughly NW-SE running field boundary cuts across it at NW and E. On the 1945 revision of the map and the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16) a larger subrectangular enclosure (c. 65m NW-SE) is depicted; it appears to be defined by a bank and fosse from SE through W to NW. The field wall still cuts through it but it is clear of trees. On inspection in April 1984 all that was visible was a curving but shallow fosse at SW; otherwise no visible surface trace survived. It was known locally as a 'fort' and was levelled in the late 1970s. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 2 April 2019
