  Description

  Small roughly circular island (diam. c. 28m) called 'Currant Island'. Marked on OS 1836 and 1976 eds. In Lough Sheelin, c. 60m from the shoreline. On the 1913 ed. the island is shown as being part of the mainland, probably the result of a substantial drop in water-levels in the lake. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
