• CV020-010 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Raised circular area (int. diam 31.2m) enclosed by two earthen banks with intermediate fosse. Outer bank has been incorporated into the field boundary and has a modern external trench. From W-NNW it is absent and has been replaced by a modern earthen bank which elsewhere runs immediately outside of it. Corresponding breaks in banks at ESE, with accompanying causeway across intermediate fosse, represents original entrance. • CV020-011 Burial ground
  Description

  A slightly raised, crescent-shaped area (int. dims. c. 71.6m NW-SE; c. 31m NE-SW) enclosed by a trench and low earthen bank which form part of the field boundary. Original entrance not recognisable. The site is known as 'Shane's Fort' and is believed to be the burial place of Shane O'Neill (local information). An earlier report (OPW 1969) speculated that the site may be a relatively modern landscape feature but noted that the field bordering the site from SE-S-WNW is known as 'The Caldragh' (CV020-081----). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). • CV020-081 Children's burial ground
  Description

  Known as 'The Caldragh Field' (local information). It is believed to be the site of a burial ground predating the graveyard at Cullies, 700m to SE. Situated adjacent to a large enclosure locally known as 'Shane's Fort' (CV020-011----). No visible remains at ground level.
