Description
Internal diam. 21m. An oval area enclosed by the remains of an earthen bank surviving up to .4m on the E side. The bank has been partially faced with stone to incorporate it into a stone wall field boundary on the E and N sides. The interior slopes from NE to SW reflecting the hill on which it was built. It is now very overgrown but situated in good land. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Description
Gateway serving Dunmore House (see 40828003), erected c. 1820, comprising a pair of diagonally-set cement rendered ruled-and-lined rubble stone gate piers (on square-plan) having cut stone capstones over. Marble plaque to pier to the west with leaded engraved text reading ‘Dunmore’. Modern metal gates with ‘sunburst’ motifs. Gate piers flanked to either side (east and west) by quadrant sections of rubble stone walling having modern repairs in places, particularly to the west. Formerly with gate lodge to the west side of gateway, now demolished. Located adjacent to road to the east of Carrigans, and at start of tree-lined approach avenue to Dunmore House from the south. Sections of rubble stone boundary wall survive along roadscape to the south-west and west.
- Dunmore House, country house, 1740–1745 · Regional interest
Description
Detached five-bay two-storey over basement with attic level country house, dated 1742 and extended c. 1820 and c. 1848, having two-bay two-storey extension attached to the east side elevation, flat-roofed single-storey Doric entrance porch (c. 1820) to the centre of the original block, and with central two-storey over basement return to the rear (north). Various single- and two-storey additions to the rear (north). Pitched artificial slate roof (c. 2006) to main body of building having metal rooflight to south pitch, blue-black clay ridge tiles, four yellow brick chimneystacks (one to either gable end and two to the centre) having brick stringcourses, moulded cement rendered cornices and decorative octagonal clay pots, and with moulded cut sandstone eaves course\cornice. Pitched artificial slate roof to extension to the east having rendered chimneystack to the east gable end, and with cut stone eaves course. Pitched slate roof to return\stair return having brick eaves course. Roughcast rendered walls to front elevation having chamfered rusticated ashlar sandstone block-and-start quoins to the corners, and with ashlar stone platband between basement and ground floor level. Smooth rendered walls to porch having rendered Doric pilasters supporting rendered moulded entablature with triglyphs to frieze and mutules to cornice. Roughcast rendered walls to extension to the east having block-and-start quoins to the corners at the east end. Camber-headed window openings with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows. Central Venetian window arrangement to the main block at first floor level having ashlar sandstone surround with moulded architraved surround with keystone detail over central round-headed window, moulded entablatures with pronounced cornices to flanking square-headed window openings, moulded continuous sandstone sill supported on stone corbels, and with timber sliding sash windows with radial head to central round-headed opening. Camber-headed window opening to the north gable end of stair return to rear (north) at ground floor (over basement) level having twelve-over-eight pane timber sliding sash window. Square-headed window openings to block to the east having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows with cement rendered reveals and stone sills. Square-headed window openings to front face of porch (south) having central six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows flanked to either side by four-over-four pane timber sliding sash windows, and with rendered torus moulded corners to reveals and painted timber sills; square-headed window opening to the west elevation of porch (formerly a doorway) having timber four-pane window with decorative cast-iron overlight. Square-headed entrance door opening to the east elevation of porch having flat-panelled timber panelled door with bolection moulding, rendered torus moulded corners to reveals, and with decorative overlight with cast-iron tracery. Set back from road in an elevated site in extensive mature landscaped grounds to the north-east of Carrigans. House overlooks River Foyle and Northern Ireland to the south. Gravelled forecourt to the south of house, farmyard complex to north (see 40828004), and walled garden to the south-east (see 40828005) having collection of sundials (see 40828012), created c. 1935-6; rubble stone wall to south-west corner of house with remains of stone dressed arch and pier having stone plaque dated ‘1620’, ‘1678’, ‘1709’ and ‘1742’. Gateway (see 40828002) at start of long approach avenue to house from the south.

Description
Group of detached single-, two- and three-storey outbuildings (including barn and stables) associated with Dunmore House (see 40828003), built c. 1800 and modified and altered on subsequent occasions. Arranged around a courtyard to the north of main house. Detached two\three-storey barn to the north of complex, single- and two-storey former stableblock to the west, and single-storey outbuilding to the east. External flight of rubble stone stairs to the south elevation of former barn to the north. Pitched and hipped natural slate roofs with blue-black and red clay ridge tiles, projecting cut stone and stepped brick eaves courses, and with some surviving sections of cast-iron rainwater goods. Brick bellcote to west gable end of three\two-storey outbuilding to the north of site. Rubble stone walls. Camber-headed and square-headed window openings, some with flush brick voussoirs and surrounds, some with cut stone sills, some with timber lintels, and with three and six-over-six and six-over-three pane timber sliding sash windows and replacement windows (generally timber casement windows). Camber-headed and square-headed door openings and loading bays having brick voussoirs, some with block-and-start brick surrounds, and with mainly battened timber doors and double-doors. Complex arranged around a gravel courtyard to the north of main house, and to the north-east of Carrigans. Mature trees to site; modern farmyard and buildings to the west and north-west of site.

Description
Walled garden complex on sub-rectangular plan associated with Dunmore House (see 4082803), erected c. 1800. Still maintained and cultivated with modern gardens and mature trees etc. to site. Rubble stone boundary walls having brick lining to internal walls to the south and east boundaries. Roughcast rendered walls in places, render coping in places. Two three-centre-headed carriage-arch entrance openings to north wall, one with modern double-gates with brick surrounds, and with painted family crest of the McClintocks over; the other with brick voussoirs, concrete reveals and wrought-iron flat-bar gate. Pedestrian gateway to the south boundary having decorative wrought- and cast-iron gate, addressed by rubble stone step. Pond to site, tennis court to the south-east corner of site. Twentieth-century summer house and glasshouses to site; rubble stone outbuilding at the central entrance to the walled garden (blocked) now in used as a bothy. Rose pergolas to site. Collection of sundials to site (see 40828012), created c. 1935-6. Seed beds to the north of site. Located to south-east of Dunmore House, and to the north-east of Carrigans.

Description
Detached three-bay single-storey over basement with dormer attic house, built c. 1820 having central gable-fronted gablet to the centre of the main elevation (east), single-bay single-storey entrance porch, c. 1900, to the centre of the front elevation (east), and with single and two-storey returns to the rear (west). Originally associated with Dunmore House (see 40828003) to the west, now in use as a private house. Pitched artificial slate roof (fibre cement) having gablet to main body of house, roughcast chimneystacks, and with timber bargeboards. flat-roof to porch with cut stone eaves course. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed window openings to front elevation having tripartite\Wyatt-style timber sliding sash windows with central six-over-six-pane timber sliding sash window; shallow segmental-headed window opening to gablet having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows; square-headed window opening to front face of porch having tripartite timber sliding sash window. Replacement windows to west, south and north sides of main body of house and to west returns. Square-headed doorway to the north face of porch having timber panelled door surmounted by overlight; round-headed doorway to centre of front elevation, behind porch having timber half-glazed panelled door with radiating fanlight set over. Set back from road in extensive mature grounds to the east of Dunmore House and to the north-east of Carrigans. Located close to the border with Northern Ireland to the east. Complex of detached single- and two-storey outbuildings to rear (west) having pitched and mono-pitched roofs, roughcast rendered walls, and square-headed openings with generally replacement fittings. Modern tennis court to site. Gateway to the east, at start of approach avenue to house, comprising a pair of roughcast rendered gate piers (on square-plan) having painted capstones over, and with a pair of metal gates with cast-iron finials.

Description
Detached five-bay single-storey house, built c. 1830. Originally associated with Dunmore House (see 40828003), possibly as a lodge. Later in use as a school house, c. 1910, and later as gardener’s house associated with Dunmore House, c. 1930. Now in use as house with modern single-storey return to the rear (north). Hipped artificial slate roof with overhanging eaves with mutules\brackets, smooth rendered eaves course with stringcourse, clay ridge tiles, two central rendered chimneystacks having stepped caps, and with replacement rainwater goods. Pebbledash rendered walls. Square-headed window openings having moulded architrave surrounds with entablatures over having decorative diamond-pattern to frieze and with projecting flat cornice over, painted stone sills, and with replacement window fittings. Central square-headed door opening to front elevation (south) having moulded architrave surround with timber entablature over having decorative diamond-pattern to frieze and with projecting flat cornice over, painted plinth blocks, replacement timber panelled door, and with plain overlight. Square-headed door opening to the east side elevation having moulded architrave surround with timber entablature over having decorative diamond-pattern to frieze and with projecting flat cornice over, painted plinth blocks, replacement battened timber door, and with decorative overlight with cast-iron tracery. Road-fronted to the east end of Carrigans and to the south-west of Dunmore House at start of former pathway to house. Carrigans Church of Ireland church (see 40828001) across the road to the south. Rendered\limewashed rubble stone walls to either side elevations (east and west) of house. Gateways to either side of house having rendered\limewashed gate piers (on square-plan) with rendered coping over, and with wrought-iron flat-bar double-gates to the west, and wrought-iron gate to the east.
