- WI010-018 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a gentle W-facing slope overlooking marshy terrain. Bivallate circular ringfort (diam. 23m; max. ext. diam. 41.5m) excavated prior to the construction of the Blessington Reservoir. The site was defined by an earthen bank (Wth 1.5m; H 0.6m) and a fosse (Wth 2.4m; D 1m) with an outer bank (Wth 2.7m; H 0.6m) from SSW-NW-NE. The fosse was separated from the inner bank by a berm (Wth 3-6m) and was partly separated from the outer bank by a second berm (max. Wth 3.4m). There were two narrow gaps (Wth 1m) in the inner bank at the NE and WSW with a more substantial example (Wth 1.5m) at the SSE opposite a causeway in the fosse. A second causeway formed by large stones occurred at the NE but may not have been an original feature. At the S, an L-shaped bank ran from the inner bank outwards across the fosse and then continued eastwards as far as the SSE entrance. Little, other than an arc of irregular paving in the N sector of the interior, was revealed during excavation. (Macalister 1943) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Description
Situated on gently NW-facing ground, at the edge of Blessington Reservoir. Circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map. Although the site is occasionally exposed in dry summers there is no visible trace at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008
- WI010-024 Children's burial ground
Description
A slight mound (diam. 20m) excavated in 1938 prior to the construction of the Blessington Reservoir beside which it now stands. Two small graveslabs, one in the form of a cross, came from the site, but the excavator surmised the acidic soil had destroyed any bones. Not visible at ground level; the site is still known as the 'Reilig'. (Raftery 1943) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008

- WI010-053 Fulacht fia
Description
Situated in a marshy field on the N bank of a stream on a NW-facing slope. According to a local farmer an irregularly shaped mound (H c. 0.5m; diam. c. 8m) existed here which was made up of fire-cracked stones and black earth. Levelled in 1986-7 when a pit-like feature was also noted within the mound. (Information A. O'Sullivan) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008
- WI010-054 Cross
Description
Situated close to a path in the middle of a field. Granite Latin cross (H c. 1.2m) with a square cross-section, set into a stone with a circular perforation, possibly a millstone fragment. Local tradition suggests that the cross was erected during a plague of cattle and sheep in the area. (Information A. O'Sullivan; O'Reilly 1995) This small stone cross stands beside a holy well (WI010-054002-) which was blessed by Fr. Rowan (Lynch 1994, 643). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). - Granite House, house, 1865–1885 · Regional interest
Description
Detached three-bay two-storey house, with distinctive granite porch, built c.1875. To the west there is a single-storey extension of c.1985. The façade is finished in unpainted lined render with window surrounds, eaves brackets, and the porch is all in granite, whilst the extension is in brick with large areas of glazing. The hipped roof is slated and has granite chimneystacks with corbelling. The entrance consists of a panelled timber door with cornice-like entablature on console brackets and segmental fanlight with rope pattern archivolt. The entrance is set within the decorative granite gable-end of the porch, with gable itself shaped in a vaguely Dutch fashion and topped with a finial. The windows are flat-headed and have two over two timber sash frames, while the surrounds to those on the ground floor have distinctive curved ‘heels’ and an entablature, with similar heels and keystone to those on the first floor. Cast-iron rainwater goods. The building is set side on to a lane leading to a quarry, but is surrounded to the north, south and west by a garden enclosed with semi-coursed rubble walls with a carriage gateway to the north with square granite piers topped with pyramidal caps with ball finials. Within the garden is the remains of another enclosure, with simple wrought-iron railings and slender granite piers with pyramidal caps and ball finials (many now broken off).

Description
Detached four-bay single-storey house with distinctive granite porch, built c.1860. To the rear there is a small lean-to projection. The walls are finished in painted render to the front and gables with unpainted render to the rear. The gable-ended pitched roof is covered in replacement pan tiles and has a granite chimneystack. The entrance, which consists of a timber door, is set within the flat-roofed granite porch, which has moulded decoration including panelled pilasters, console brackets, ‘dripstone’ and triangular ‘finial’. The windows are flat-headed and have replacement top-hung timber frames. Replacement metal rainwater goods. The gable of the house is set close to a laneway, whilst to the front (north) there is a garden enclosed with rendered walls with unusual ‘twig’-shaped late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement cast-iron railings. There are two pedestrian gateways, the main gateway to the north having a wrought-iron gate and granite piers topped with decorative finials, whilst that to the east has a much plainer wrought-iron gate and piers topped with less ornate pyramidal caps and ball finials.
