• CV012-005 House - fortified house
  Description

  Large almost square building (int. dims 16.7m NW-SE; 16.45m NE-SW) built of roughly coursed limestone and rubble, divided internally by a wall running NE-SW. Remains of doorway with bolt-hole in SE wall. Fragments of windows survive in the SW and NE walls. The N wall has been partially reconstructed. Probably of mid-18th-century date. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).   Description

  Small circular island (diam. c.20m) in Dunrora Lough, c. 20m from the shoreline. Davies (1942, 17) described this site as a crannóg-folly, built in the eighteenth century as support for a summerhouse. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). • Red Hills, demesne walls/gates/railings, 1780–1800 · Regional interest
  Description

  Vehicular gates, piers and wall screen, built c.1790, forming entrance to Red Hills estate. Square-profile ashlar piers with cornice over plain frieze crowned having pine cone finials fitting into foliated carved cups. Gate stops treated as pilasters with scrolled top rising from advanced base. Cast- and wrought-iron double gates with spear-headed finials. Straight and convex wall sweep of roughly coursed rubble limestone masonry topped with plain ashlar stone.

• Red Hills, gate lodge, 1780–1820 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge, built c.1800, with semi-octagonal plan porch. Hipped state roof with clay ridge tiles having lead-roll ridge to porch roof, wide eaves supported on scrolled console brackets, and central brick chimneystack. Recently rendered walls with recent quoins and moulded architraves around windows and doors. Recent windows of decorative design with top-hung casements. Located behind ashlar square-profile gate piers topped with acorn finials supporting double-leaf wrought- and cast-iron gates, flanked by rubble stone curved boundary walls.

• Water pump, 1860–1900 · Regional interest
  Description

  Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1880. Circular banded shaft, wider fluted head with gadrooned domed cap and spike pinnacle. Spout with raised rim and projecting bucket lip, cow tailed handle pivoted on lug projecting from one side of head. Secured on concrete slab surrounded by steel railing.

  Description

  Pair of semi-detached three-bay two-storey houses with attic gable windows, built c.1800. Pitched slate roof with oversailing eaves and verge having plain barge boards. Brick replacement chimneystack on party wall, cast-iron rainwater goods. Limewashed rubble walls. Two-over-two timber sash windows. Square-headed door openings with recent timber glazed doors. Un-fenestrated rear elevation. Corrugated-iron lean-to outbuilding to north gable. Timber fence to front providing boundary with road. Located at the junction of two roads.
